Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4/5): Palace planning bold move
FA Cup winners Crystal Palace are exploring the possibility of signing Sporting CP centre-back Ousmane Diomande, as they look to make a statement acquisition ahead of their Europa League campaign next season.
The story comes from the very reputed The Telegraph, which adds Palace are looking at possible targets in a bid to bolster Oliver Glasner's defence.
Value (3.5/5): Reasonable demand for incredible talent
The Ivorian is considered one of the most highly rated centre-backs in Europe, having been followed by Premier League heavyweights over the last few seasons. With his contract due to expire in two seasons, the Lisbon outfit reportedly value their star at £45million.
Suitability (4.5/5): A complete package
The 21-year-old defender brings an impeccable mix of speed, power and composure. Standing at 6'3″, he is known for his physical presence and ability to bring the ball confidently out of defence. Many defenders struggle to deal with the Premier League's physicality, but considering Diomande's performance in Europe, it seems that challenge would be a cakewalk for him.
Upgrade? (4/5): Possible Guehi replacement
Palace are bracing themselves for offers for their captain Marc Guehi, who is entering the final 12 months of his deal at Selhurst Park. It is not going to be easy to fill Guehi's void, but Diomande has the potential to make an instant impact and make the Eagles faithful forget their skipper, should he decide to leave.
Logic (2.5/5): Plenty of options
Considering Diomande's reputation, a number of clubs are expected to join the race for him. As such, it will be difficult for Palace to convince the Sporting man that they are the right fit for him.
Whisper+ verdict: 18.5/25
Palace might have the financial might to meet Sporting's demand but it is going to be an uphill task to strike an agreement with Diomande.
