Chelsea to win

Man Utd have lost three of their last four matches in all competitions.

Chelsea will take on Manchester United on Saturday, 31 October, in a huge Premier League clash at Stamford Bridge.

After surviving the sack this week, Michael Carrick desperately needs a result in West London, but it will not be an easy task against a wounded Chelsea side, who followed up their defeat to Tottenham last weekend with a penalty shootout loss in the Carabao Cup.

While there is no suggestion that Xabi Alonso's job is under threat at Chelsea, eyebrows will be raised if his Chelsea team fail to beat Man Utd at home on Saturday.

The Blues have had a solid, if not spectacular, start to the season, but this week has been damaging. Losing at home to Tottenham was a hammer blow, while being knocked out of the Carabao Cup means they now only have the FA Cup to play for in terms of silverware.

Chelsea fans could be forgiven for expecting slightly more, given the Blues are not in Europe this season, but the season is still young, and they should improve as they get more accustomed to Alonso's demands.

For the match against Man Utd, Alonso will welcome Cole Palmer back into the starting XI after the former Man City man missed the Liverpool clash due to suspension.

On the flip side of the coin, Maxence Lacroix, Reece James, Joao Pedro, Emiliano Martinez and Jamie Gittens are all out injured.

As for Man Utd, they need to find a way to stop the rot this weekend, otherwise another week of speculation around Carrick's future awaits.

After losing 4-1 to Como and 3-0 to Bournemouth over the last 10 days, many people expected the Red Devils to line up this weekend with a new manager, but Carrick has been given a stay of execution.

An interesting subplot ahead of the trip to Stamford Bridge this weekend is the availability of Bruno Fernandes. The United captain reportedly held clear-the-air talks with Carrick this week, but it remains to be seen whether he will return to the starting XI.

Kobbie Mainoo is also in line for a recall after returning to training, but Luke Shaw, Marcus Rashford, Manuel Ugarte, Patrick Dorgu and Benjamin Sesko are all still injured.
