The Championship has long been regarded as one of the most competitive and unpredictable leagues in world football, and the 2026/27 season looks no different.

Following a summer of high-profile arrivals and some surprising relegations from the Premier League, the second tier is packed with top-level talent.

Using Transfermarkt's market valuations (as of June 20th), Football Whispers has put together the Championship's most valuable starting XI.

Unsurprisingly, newly-relegated West Ham United dominate the selection, contributing seven of the 11 players in a squad worth a combined £200.5 million.

Championship's most valuable XI for 2026/27 season

A 4-2-3-1 formation sees Mads Hermansen start in goal behind a defence featuring West Ham trio Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Jean-Clair Todibo and El Hadji Malick Diouf, with Wolverhampton Wanderers centre-back Ladislav Krejci completing the back four. The defensive unit alone carries a combined value of more than £86 million.

In midfield, Wolves' Andre partners Caspar Jander, while Southampton teammate and playmaker Finn Azaz occupies the number 10 role. The attacking trio is led by West Ham's Jarrod Bowen and Crysencio Summerville, with the latter the Championship's most valuable player at £30 million. Leading the line is another Hammer, Taty Castellanos, completing a formidable-looking attack.

West Ham's dominance is reflected throughout the side, with Hermansen, Diouf, Todibo, Wan-Bissaka, Summerville, Bowen and Castellanos all making the XI. Southampton provide two representatives through Jander and Azaz, while Wolves contribute Andre and Krejci, underlining the quality retained by several clubs following relegation or ambitious recruitment.

Can anyone stop West Ham?

On paper, West Ham possess a squad that should be challenging for an immediate return to the Premier League. Having seven players in the Championship's most valuable XI illustrates the depth and quality at their disposal.

However, the Championship has never been won on transfer values alone. As countless favourites have discovered over the years, consistency and resilience often prove just as valuable as market price.
