Celtic to win (-1.5 handicap)

Celtic have won every match at Celtic Park under Martin O'Neill this season.

Celtic will take on Falkirk on Sunday, 1 February, as the title race in Scotland continues to heat up.

Following their draw with Hearts last weekend, Celtic find themselves in third position, two points behind Rangers in second and six points behind Hearts at the top of the table. Anything other than a win here would be a hammer blow to their title aspirations.

As part of this week's round of Scottish Premiership betting tips, here is our Celtic vs Falkirk prediction.

Celtic vs Falkirk prediction: The visitors to triumph

Key Stats

  • Three of Celtic's last four victories have come by a margin of two goals or more.
  • Falkirk have lost each of their last seven matches against Celtic, six of which have been by two goals or more.
  • More than two goals have been scored in five of the last six meetings between the two clubs.

Correct score prediction: Celtic 3-0 Falkirk

The Celtic players should have a bounce in their steps following their Europa League victory on Thursday night, which should help them to take care of Falkirk with minimal fuss.

Pre-game odds and win probability: The hosts are big favourites

  • HOME: 1/3 (1.33) – 75%
  • DRAW: 9/2 (5.50) – 18.2%
  • AWAY: 7/1 (8.00) – 12.5%

*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change

The Celtic vs Falkirk odds tell us that the visitors aren't being given much chance of denting the hosts' title hopes this weekend. Ladbrokes have given Celtic a 75% chance of winning the match, while Falkirk have been given just a 12.5% chance of victory.

Most recent H2Hs: Celtic domination

The recent H2H record should offer hope and encouragement for both clubs. On one hand, Hearts have won the two previous clashes this season, while on the other hand, Celtic won all three last season.

Celtic preview: Trusty ruled out

Celtic will be without Thursday night's match-winner, Auston Trusty, due to suspension, but aside from that, it is a case of as you were for the Bhoys. Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Marcelo Saracchi and Jota are all still out due to injury problems.

Predicted lineup: Schmeichel (GK), Araujo, Murray, Scales, Tierney, McGregor, Engels, Nygren, Hyun-Jun, Cvancara, Maeda

Last five results

  • Celtic 4-2 Utrecht
  • Hearts 2-2 Celtic
  • Bologna 2-2 Celtic
  • Auchinleck Talbot 0-2 Celtic
  • Falkirk 0-1 Celtic

Falkirk preview: No reason to change

Falkirk have no fresh injury or suspension concerns ahead of this one, so it would be strange if they were to field anything other than the same starting XI that dismantled Hibernian 4-1 last weekend. Thomas Lang, Gary Oliver, Ross MacIver and Filip Lissah all remain injured.

Predicted lineup: Bain (GK), Adams, Allan, Henderson, McCann, Tait, Spencer, Wilson, Yeats, Miller, Stewart

Last five results

  • Falkirk 4-1 Hibernian
  • Hearts 1-2 Falkirk
  • Falkirk 0-1 Celtic
  • St. Mirren 0-2 Falkirk
  • Falkirk 1-0 Aberdeen

Player to watch: Tomas Cvancara

Tomas Cvancara was brought in just last week on a loan deal until the end of the season, but the idea will be that the Borussia Monchengladbach man impresses and convinces the Celtic board to buy him in the summer. Cvancara will need to hit the ground running, though, so a goal this weekend would be ideal for all parties.
