Benfica to win

The visitors possess the quality to end their winless run at Casa Pia, extending their unbeaten streak.

Casa Pia welcome Benfica to Estadio Municipal de Rio Maior on Monday for the final match of matchday two in the Primeira Liga, with both teams looking for a first league victory of the new campaign.

Benfica were held to a frustrating 2-2 draw by newly promoted Academico de Viseu on the opening weekend, while Casa Pia began their campaign with a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Maritimo.

The Eagles have already shown signs of the defensive vulnerability that contributed to their third-place finish last season, but their remarkable unbeaten record in the Primeira Liga means Marco Silva's side remain strong favourites to respond against a Casa Pia team that struggled for home wins last term.

Benfica will head to Rio Maior knowing that another dropped two points would represent an underwhelming beginning to Marco Silva's reign in the Primeira Liga.

The former Fulham manager replaced Jose Mourinho in June and appeared to have made the perfect start when Vangelis Pavlidis gave Benfica an early lead against Academico de Viseu, but the Eagles twice surrendered their advantage before settling for a 2-2 draw.

The result continued a worrying trend from last season, when Benfica were held to 11 draws and ultimately finished third despite becoming the only team in the division to avoid defeat throughout the campaign.

Silva has nevertheless overseen a positive start in Europe, with Benfica following their domestic draw by securing a 1-1 draw away to Hearts that completed a 7-2 aggregate victory in the Europa League third qualifying round.

The Portuguese giants will now face Aarhus in the playoff round, but their immediate priority will be securing their first league victory under their new manager.

Benfica's unbeaten domestic record remains particularly impressive, with the Eagles now having avoided defeat in half a century of Primeira Liga matches.

Casa Pia will take some encouragement from their recent meetings with Benfica, having avoided defeat in each of their last three encounters. The sides drew 1-1 and 2-2 in their two meetings last season, following Casa Pia's memorable 3-1 victory in the corresponding fixture in 2024-25.

However, the hosts' recent home record provides a significant concern, with Casa Pia winning only two of their 17 league matches at Rio Maior last season, collecting 15 points from those fixtures, and only Tondela and AVS recorded fewer points at home.

The Geese also began the new campaign with defeat, losing 1-0 to Maritimo in Funchal despite enjoying the greater share of possession. Raphael Guzzo scored the only goal in the 61st minute, leaving new head coach Coelho without a victory in his first competitive match in charge.

Coelho has taken on his first senior managerial position after working with Chelsea's Under-21 side and serving as an assistant at Strasbourg, and his primary objective will be to steer Casa Pia away from another relegation battle after they finished 16th last season before surviving through the playoff system against Torreense.

Whispers predicts: Casa Pia 1-2 Benfica

Benfica's defensive performance against Academico de Viseu means Silva's side cannot be expected to cruise through Monday's fixture, particularly against a Casa Pia team that have avoided defeat in their last three meetings with the Eagles.

The visitors should nevertheless have enough attacking quality to secure three points, and we predict Benfica to win at 1.22 (2/9), while Benfica to score over 1.5 goals is available at around 1.33 (1/3).

📈 Casa Pia vs. Benfica — Whispers' Tips
