After finishing third in the Championship last season, Millwall are among the favourites for Premier League promotion this term, and their early-season form suggests they are well on course.
Alex Neil's side have made a flying start, recording wins over Norwich City and Bristol City by a combined score of 5-0. As one of only three teams with a perfect record, the Lions currently lead the way in English football's second tier.
Before their league heroics, Millwall faced a tricky EFL Cup first-round tie against Queens Park Rangers. After a goalless draw, the contest went to penalties, with the Lions converting the only two spot-kicks out of eight attempts to advance.
Now aiming to reach the EFL Cup third round in consecutive seasons for the first time since 2021, Tuesday's visitors travel to a ground where they are unbeaten in five of their last six matches (W3, D2).
However, their only defeat in that period came on their most recent trip four years ago, when Millwall suffered a 1-0 first-round EFL Cup exit.
Cambridge responded superbly to relegation to League Two by securing immediate promotion back to League One and have looked comfortable in the opening two gameweeks, picking up four points from a possible six despite surrendering a lead against Bromley on Saturday.
That result extended the U's unbeaten run to 11 matches, the ninth of which was a 2-1 triumph over Barnet in the EFL Cup first round, to set up Tuesday's clash with Millwall.
Having won just one of the last 11 meetings, Neil Harris's side have struggled against their upcoming opponents, but can take confidence from a strong home record in 2026, with only two competitive defeats at the Abbey.
Since finishing pre-season with back-to-back clean sheets, Cambridge have conceded in all three matches this season, and ending that run on Tuesday would give the hosts a major boost in their bid for cup progression.

Whispers predicts: Cambridge United 1-2 Millwall
Tuesday's clash pits two in-form teams against each other, so it could easily swing either way. That said, we are backing Millwall to edge a narrow victory at 51/50 (2.02).
BTTS – Yes at 4/5 (1.80) is an appealing selection, given how regularly both teams have found the net recently.
Isaac Heath has scored in both of his home appearances for Cambridge this season, and the 21-year-old is 11/2 (6.50) to find the net again here.

> BTTS – Yes at 4/5 (1.80) | Likelihood: Probable
