Authenticity (4/5): The Athletic link a new left-back with Brighton
Botafogo's highly-rated talent Cuiabano has landed on Brighton & Hove Albion‘s scouting network, with the Seagulls now understood to be pushing to sign the versatile Brazilian ahead of new season.
The story comes The Athletic, who are one of the most reliable outlets in England.
Value (2.5/5): Botafogo playing hardball
The Premier League outfit have already tested Botafogo's resolve by making two bids, believed to be in the region of £7million, including add-ons. However, the Brazilian side have stood their ground, turning down the latest bid which was similar to what Fenerbahce saw rejected in January.
Suitability (3.5/5): Physically imposing left-sided player
Capable of playing on either end of the left-flank, Cuiabano is a physically imposing player, who is aggressive in and out of possession. Fabian Hürzeler has suggested that he wants more physical and high intensity talents, making the Brazilian an ideal fit for his system. He has made eight appearances for Botafogo in Series A this term, registering a goal and an assist.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Best as a left-back
Apart from dominating the left flank, Cuiabano is also capable of playing in the middle of the park. However, with Tariq Lamptey out of contract in the summer, he is likely to be primarily considered as a cover for Pervis Estupinan at left-back.
Logic (4.5/5): Big opportunity for the young Brazilian
The Seagulls' record of developing young players has been very impressive in recent times. As such, they would be a great fit for Cuiabano if he is looking to test his skill sets at the highest level and turn into a Premier League regular.
Whisper+ verdict: 18/25
So far, Botafogo have resisted the temptation to cash in on their incredible talent, but considering Brighton's resources, this transfer saga should only go one way.
