Brest ended the 2025/26 league season as one of the worst-performing teams, winless in nine straight outings. Their run was only exacerbated on the opening day, when newly-promoted Le Mans held them to a 2-2 draw.
New manager Julien Lachuer, in his maiden managerial tenure after his four-year stay as assistant coach at Brest, will be desperate to earn his first competitive win.
Brest conceded 23 goals at home last term – the second joint-most inside the top-10 ranked home teams.
However, there is little hope of an improved display against Toulouse, having won one– a pre-season friendly – in 16 matches since mid-March.
Hugo Magnetti and Brendan Chardonnet missed the first match of the season and are likely to sit this one out as well.
Toulouse are also under new management, with Danish coach Jens Berthel Askou taking charge. His debut ended in disappointment though, with Lyon edging the hosts 2-0 on the opening matchday.
It was Toulouse’s first defeat in five league games, having ended last season unbeaten in four on their way to a ninth-placed finish.
Toulouse scored and conceded 22 away from home last season.
Their pre-season took a downward turn after three straight undefeated outings (W2, D1), as they lost back-to-back games in mid-August.
Aaron Donnum, Ylies Aradj and Abu Francis are the Violets’ three absentees for this second matchday clash.

Whispers predicts: Brest 1-2 Toulouse
As per Bet365, Double chance in Toulouse’s favour i.e. Toulouse/Draw at 1/2 (1.50) carries weight. La Tefece are the superior side on paper, plus their quality on the ball is largely superior to Brest’s opening day rivals.
Backing only Toulouse to win at 13/8 (2.62) is a bet worth punting on.
Over 2.5 total goals at 20/21 (1.95) offers significant value, with five of Toulouse’s last seven away league matches producing over 2.5 goals.
Both sides expected to get on the scoresheet. Brest have scored two or more goals in six of their last nine home matches, while Toulouse have netted in four of their last five away outings. BTTS – Yes at 3/4 (1.75) offers dividends.
