BTTS - Yes

Both teams to score has landed in each of the last four head-to-head meetings between the two sides.

Both looking to return to winning ways after the international break, Braga and Sporting Lisbon meet in Minho on Friday evening for round eight of the Primeira Liga.

Both sides entered the three-week hiatus on the back of stalemates, with the Archbishops sharing the spoils against Santa Clara in the Azores, a day before the Lions’ disappointing  draw with Arouca at Estadio Jose Alvalade.

Braga sit sixth in the standings with a game in hand, while Sporting occupy third place, four points ahead of their hosts, one behind second-placed Benfica and six adrift of leaders Porto.

Braga will hope the extended break has allowed Carlos Vicens's side to regroup after they were held to a goalless draw by Santa Clara, a result that followed a narrow home victory over Estoril Praia in their previous league outing.

The Archbishops have had their league campaign disrupted by a postponed meeting with Gil Vicente, meaning they have played only six Primeira Liga matches so far and have collected 11 points from those fixtures despite suffering defeat away to Estrela Amadora in September.

Braga's European ambitions mean that a strong league position remains important after they missed out on Europa League football for this season, despite a fourth-placed finish last term, but their early-season schedule has left them with plenty of ground to make up.

Vicens's men should nevertheless approach Friday's contest with confidence given the strength they have shown at home this term, with their victories over Vitoria de Guimaraes and Estoril forming part of a run that has seen them keep their opponents out in each of the five competitive matches at their own ground this season.

Sporting, meanwhile, will be eager to respond after their final outing before the break ended in frustration, as an Arouca side they had led 2-0 fought back to earn a point after Zeno Debast was sent off in the second half.

Rui Borges's team had appeared to be gathering momentum earlier in the campaign by following an opening-day draw at Estrela with four successive league victories, while their Champions League success against Galatasaray briefly extended that run across all competitions.

The Lions have nevertheless been unable to maintain that momentum in their last two league fixtures, drawing at Famalicao before the Arouca setback and allowing Porto to establish a six-point advantage at the summit after only seven matches.

Sporting were unable to retain their league title last term, finishing second and six points behind champions Porto, and with a sizable gap to the defending champions this time, the Lions know they cannot afford to drop further points.

The visitors can draw encouragement from their recent record at this venue, although three successive draws between the clubs suggest that another closely fought encounter could be in store rather than a straightforward away victory.

Whispers predicts: Braga 1-1 Sporting

There is a strong case for both teams to score – yes  at 1.75 (3/4), as the attacking quality on either side should make a clean sheet difficult to achieve in a fixture that has produced goals at both ends in each of the last four meetings.

Meanwhile, Braga's formidable home record makes the draw worth considering at 3.30 (23/10), particularly with the hosts likely to be confident of making life difficult for a Sporting side still searching for greater consistency after their recent dropped points.

Sporting to score first at 1.73 (8/11) is also an appealing option considering their tendency to make the early breakthrough, but Braga's home resilience could allow the hosts to respond and secure a share of the spoils, making a 1-1 draw at 5.50 (11/2) a valuable correct-score selection.
