Sporting CP to win

While Braga have been near impenetrable at home in recent weeks, Sporting boast a superior squad on paper, and we predict they will do just enough to secure all three points this weekend.

Sporting CP return to action in the Portuguese Primeira Liga when they visit the Estadio Braga Municipal to face Braga on Saturday. While the home side will be looking to make it five home victories on the trot and continue their push for European qualification, Sporting could move within one point of league leaders Porto with a win this weekend.

FootballWhispers’ Braga vs Sporting CP prediction takes a look at the odds of both teams coming away with all three points this weekend.

Braga preview: Looking to make it seven wins in eight

Braga continued their fine run of results heading into the season’s run-in as they dug deep to secure a 2-1 victory over Nacional at the Estadio da Madeira last Saturday.

One week on from netting a hat-trick to inspire Braga to a thrilling 3-2 victory over Vitoria de Guimaraes, Rodrigo Zalazar delivered the goods for Braga once again as he converted his 96th-minute penalty to hand them a last-gasp victory.

With that result, Carlos Vicens’s men have won six of their last seven Primeira Liga matches, with a 2-1 defeat against Gil Vicente on February 14 being the exception, and are unbeaten in eight of their nine outings across all competitions since January 18.

This fine run of results has seen Braga surge into fourth place in the Primeira Liga standings with 45 points from 24 games, five points above fifth-placed Gil Vicente just outside the UEFA Conference League qualifying spot.

Predicted lineup: Hornicek (GK), Barisic, Lagerbielke, Arrey-Mbi, Gomez, Rodrigues, Grillitsch, Martinez, Zalazar, Delgado & Horta

Sporting CP preview: Leoes look to keep momentum high with Champions League clash on horizon

Sporting CP placed one foot in the final of the Taca de Portugal when they held on to see out a 1-0 victory over rivals Porto in the first leg of their semi-final clash at the Estadio Jose Alvalade in midweek.

The Leoes now turn their focus to the Primeira Liga, where they are unbeaten in each of their last 20 matches, picking up 16 wins and four draws since August’s 2-1 home defeat at the hands of Porto.

This blistering run of results has Rui Borges’s men well in contention for a third straight league crown, as they sit second in the Primeira Liga table with 61 points from 24 matches, four points off first-placed Porto.

While Braga follow Saturday’s clash with a trip to the Groupama Arena to face Ferencvaros in the first leg of their Europa League last-16 clash, Sporting journey to Norway to take on Bodo/Glimt in the Champions League.

Predicted lineup: Silva (GK), Fresneda, Diomande, Inacio, Araujo, Hjulmand, Morita, Catamo, Trincao, Guilherme & Suarez

With his winner in the midweek cup tie against Porto, Luis Javier Suarez continued to deliver the goods for Sporting CP in what has been a standout debut campaign and the 28-year-old will be one to look out for this weekend.

The Colombian striker has found the back of the net five times in his last four matches and is in red-hot form in the league, scoring 11 goals and providing two assists in eight matches since December 28.

Having joined from Almeria last season, Suarez has racked up 22 goals in 23 Primeira Liga matches to lead the Golden Boot race, two more goals than Benfica's Vangelis Pavlidis in second place.
