Borussia Monchengladbach were outclassed and outplayed in their 2026-27 Bundesliga curtain-raiser last Saturday as they suffered a 3-0 defeat against Leipzig when the two sides squared off at the Red Bull Arena.

In a one-sided affair, Ridle Baku, Antonio Nusa and Rocco Reitz all hit the back of the net to hand Leipzig a dominant opening-day victory and extend their unbeaten home run against Monchengladbach to 11 matches.

Borussia Monchengladbach have failed to secure a Bundesliga opening-day win in the last four seasons, a run stretching back to August 2022, when they defeated Augsburg 3-1 at Borussia Park in the 2022-23 curtain-raiser.

Eugen Polanski’s men head into the season off the back of another forgettable league campaign, with Die Fohlen picking up 38 points from their 34 Bundesliga matches to finish 12th in the standings, their second-lowest league position in the last 10 years.

Making their first home outing this season, Monchengladbach will be backing themselves to bounce back this weekend at Borussia Park, where they are unbeaten in seven straight league matches, picking up four wins and three draws since a 3-0 defeat against Stuttgart on January 25.

On the other hand, newly-promoted Elversberg announced themselves in the big leagues in style last weekend when they secured a 3-2 victory over Bayer Leverkusen at Waldstadion an der Kaiserlinde.

The home side ran riot in Spiesen-Elversberg, with Lukas Petrov, Cole Campbell and David Mokwa hitting the target to put them in a commanding three-goal lead before Patrik Schick and Christian Kofane slashed the deficit for Leverkusen in the second half.

Prior to that, Elversberg booked their spot in the second round of the DFB Pokal on August 22, when they secured a 3-1 victory over third-tier side Duisburg courtesy of a 38th-minute strike from Luca Schnellbacher and a late brace from Francis Onyeka.

Vincent Wagner’s men make their debut in the Bundesliga following a groundbreaking 2025-26 campaign, with the Saarland-based club picking up 18 wins and eight draws from their 34 2. Bundesliga matches to finish second in the league standings, ending a 119-year wait for top-flight football.

While Elversberg will aim to join Hoffenheim as the only teams in Bundesliga history to win their opening two matches in a debut top-flight campaign, recent results on the road raise cause for concern, having managed just one win from their last six competitive away games.

Monchengladbach to win + 2-4 goal range sits at 21/10 (3.10), which offers high value, while a correct score of 2-1 at 15/2 (8.50) is our outside pick at Borussia Park this weekend.
