🔥 Our Hot tip

Under 2.5 goals

Only one goal has been scored in each of Boavista's three matches this season.

Boavista will take on Estoril in the Primeira Liga on Saturday, 31 August with both teams looking to build on a stuttering start to the new campaign.

Boavista currently sit in three points after three matches after following up their opening day victory with back-to-back defeats while Estoril are just on one point after picking up just one draw from their opening three matches.

The visitors on Saturday do at least carry an element of momentum into the fixture after avoiding defeat for the first last time out but they will have to do a lot more to earn victory this weekend.

As part of our latest round of Primeira Liga predictions, here is our Boavista vs Estoril prediction.

Boavista vs Estoril prediction: A low-scoring affair

Key stats

  • Only three goals have been scored across Boavista's opening three matches of the season.
  • Only one goal has been scored across Estoril's two most recent fixtures.
  • Neither side have managed to score more than once in a single match this season.
  • Both teams to score has only been covered in one of the six matches involving these two teams this season.

Correct score prediction: Boavista 1-0 Estoril

Although neither of these teams have exactly started the season with a spring in their step, we are leaning towards Boavista purely due to home advantage. Estoril have failed to score in two of their three league matches this season whereas Boavista are yet to concede more than one goal in any of the matches they've played. We anticipate an ugly 1-0 win for the hosts.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Boavista go in as favourites

  • Home: 11/8 (2.38) – 42.1%
  • Draw: 9/4 (3.25) – 30.8%
  • Away: 2/1 (3.00) – 33.3%

The Benfica vs Estoril odds indicate that the bookies are slightly unsure ahead of this one which is fair enough when you consider how poor both teams have been so far this season. Ladbrokes have priced Boavista as the slight favourites at a price of 11/8 while a win for Estoril has been priced at 2/1. The draw, which wouldn't surprise anyone, has been priced at 9/4.

Most recent H2Hs: Advantage Boavista

One reason why Boavista might feel more confident than their opponents ahead of this one is their recent record against Estoril. They have lost just one of their last six matches against Estoril and have tasted victory in their last three meetings with them. Estoril's last victory in an away match against Boavista came back in 2015.

Boavista preview: Looking to find more goals

After narrowly avoiding relegation last season, the aim for Boavista this campaign is to try and avoid finding themselves in a similar situation again this time around. To do that, they are going to need to find more goals from somewhere otherwise another long season is in the pipeline.

Predicted lineup: Goncalves (GK), Gomes, Barros, Onyemaechi, Ferreira, Silva, Reisinho, Camara, Vukotic, Agra & Bozenik

Estoril preview: Still working things out

After losing their opening match of the season 4-1, Estoril clearly needed to strip things back a little to get properly stuck into the season. They have managed to do that over the past couple of weeks but have offered very little up top. Can that change this weekend?

Predicted lineup: Robles (GK), Carvalho, Alvaro, Mangala, Amaral, Jandro, Zanocelo, Da Silva, Begraoui, Costa & Marques

Player to watch: Joao Goncalves

A lot of Boavista's good work this season has been related to their defensive structure. While they have been rather lifeless going forward, they have been difficult to break down and have conceded just twice in the league so far.

At the heart of that defensive work is goalkeeper, Joao Goncalves. The young shot-stopper is highly rated in Portugal and could be on the move in the coming years. For now, it is his job to try and bank another clean sheet against Estoril.
