It's time for our Portugal League predictions ahead of Rio Ave's trip to title-challenging Benfica. The hosts sit a point behind their local rivals Sporting Lisbon but if they can better their result this weekend, Benfica would go top of the table.

Benfica vs Rio Ave prediction – Betting tips & odds

Hot Tip – Benfica to Win-to-Nil

  • Benfica have won each of their last eleven league and cup games against Rio Ave.
  • Benfica have kept three clean sheets in their last four games against Rio Ave.

Another reason that we have backed Benfica to win to nil as our main prediction for this game is that Rio Ave have failed to score in two of their last three competitive and non-competitive away games.

Benfica vs Rio Ave team news

Benfica

Benfica cruised to all three points away at Arouca last time out. Rafa opened the scoring with his sixth league goal of the campaign, and Orkun Kokcu and Petar Musa found the back of the net in the second half to win the game 3-0.

Juan Bernat, Casper Tengstedt, David Neres and Alexander Bah are all injury concerns for Benfica this weekend, while Gilson Tavares is absent for Benfica, as he is with Cape Verde at AFCON 2023, mixing it with the likes of Mohamed Salah in Group B.

Predicted Lineup: Trubin (GK), Otamendi, Morato, Silva, Di María, Mário, Aursnes, Rafa, Kökçü, Neves & Cabral

Rio Ave

Rio Ave put in a solid home performance against Portimonense in their last league game. Following a goalless first half, Emmanuel Boateng scored to break the deadlock in Rio Ave's favour and teammate Zé Manuel secured all three points with a second goal late on.

The visitors have no fresh injury concerns or suspended players ahead of what is likely to be a very tough trip to Lisbon on Sunday.

Predicted Lineup: Jhonatan (GK), Santos, Sá, Nóbrega, Costinha, Oudrhiri, Guga, Joca, Boateng, Ruiz & Ronaldo

Player to Watch: Angel Di Maria

Benfica's 35-year-old midfielder has chipped in with five Primeira Liga goals this season, proving he still has what it takes to make a difference at this level.

Di Maria only joined Benfica in the summer following a short spell, with Juventus but he has already scored more goals for the Portuguese side that he managed for the Italian giants. We're backing Di Maria to show all his class and quality against Rio Ave on Sunday, helping to guide Benfica to another three points.
