Searching for a successor to their striker Robert Lewandowski, who should not be extended at the end of his contract in June 2026, FC Barcelona have activated several targets on the transfer market, including the one leading to Harry Kane.

The Bayern Munich striker is more than ever a real goalscoring machine. Kane is even currently the Big Five European leagues' top scorer this season with 22 goals scored in 15 matches. His name is circulating in several destinations, and notably at FC Barcelona for several weeks. Through his profile as a formidable finisher, his age and his current club, Kane (32 years old) recalls Lewandowski greatly, recruited by Barcelona for €55m (£47m) from Bayern Munich at the age of 34 in 2022.

Moreover, despite a contract running until June 2027, Kane can be transferred without Bayern's agreement because he has a release clause of €65m (£55.5m). This Sunday, newspaper Sport inform us that the prospect of signing for Barcelona would reportedly be considered by the England international. Very good news for the Catalan club, who therefore seem to have a real opportunity to play, even if several parameters could pose problems in this matter.

Can Barcelona really afford Harry Kane?

The first concerns Kane's preference. Showing himself open to Barcelona does not necessarily mean that the striker has chosen Barcelona. Sport thus mention discussions from his agents with several clubs, notably in Saudi Arabia. But the main threat could well come from the Premier League. Indeed, the former Tottenham star would reportedly be tempted by a return home in order to attempt to beat Alan Shearer's record, the Premier League's all-time top scorer with 260 goals, 47 more than Kane, who has 213 goals.

Finally, as often at Barcelona, it is especially the financial question that will be central. Sport show themselves optimistic about the Blaugrana's capacities to finance both Kane's transfer at €65m and to assume his salary of £21.5m gross annually, but they will have to ensure they respect the “1+1” rule and face competition from competitors ready to offer him more. This is why the Bavarian currently represents only one target amongst others in Catalonia, alongside certain more expensive ones, like Julian Alvarez (Atletico Madrid), and other cheap ones, in the image of Karl Etta Eyong (Levante).
