Authenticity (3/5): Perisic lands on Barcelona's radar
Barcelona have shown interest in signing PSV Eindhoven star Ivan Perisic in a surprise move, as Hansi Flick continues to explore the market for a new winger.
The story comes from Foot Mercato‘s Santi Aouna, who adds Flick has already spoken with the Croatian star.
Value (4/5): Free transfer
Barca also have Luis Diaz and Marcus Rashford on their shortlist of targets but both attackers are not going to be available for cheap. Meanwhile, less high-profile option Perisic could move to Camp Nou as a free agent, having put discussions with PSV regarding renewal on hold.
Suitability (4/5): Workhorse
Perisic is 36, and yet he guarantees plenty of runs into the channel, consistent tracking back to help the defence, and relentless pressing, making him an ideal option for Flick's high-intensity football in Barcelona. His output is equally brilliant. The Croatia international scored 16 goals and assisted 11 times for PSV this term. The German is well aware of what Perisic brings to the table, having managed him at Bayern Munich.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Challenge for Yamal and Raphinha
In Lamine Yamal and Raphinha, Flick is blessed with two of the best wingers in Europe, as such any new winger is unlikely to be guaranteed a starting role at Barca. Instead, Perisic is likely to be used as a rotational option to ensure both Yamal and Raphinha deliver consistently. Considering his age, that might just be the perfect role for the ex-Munich man.
Logic (4/5): End the career in a massive fashion
With his performances at PSV, Perisic has underlined he is still capable of delivering at the top level. However, he is very unlikely to win big trophies in the Netherlands. A move to Barca could give him another opportunity to lift major trophies before bringing an end to an already illustrious career.
Whisper+ verdict: 18.5/25
PSV are powerless in this saga due to Perisic's contract situation and the player appears keen on moving to Barcelona. This should be a fairly easy pursuit for the Spanish giants if they are seriously interested in the winger.
