The hosts currently occupy the relegation play-off position, while Nice are desperately trying to avoid slipping further toward danger after a miserable recent run.

Auxerre kept their survival hopes alive with an impressive 3-1 victory over Angers last weekend, a result that injected fresh belief into Christophe Pelissier’s squad at a critical stage of the campaign.

The Burgundy club now know that victory here would lift them above Nice in the standings and guarantee they avoid the automatic relegation places heading into the final weekend. Despite their struggles throughout the season, recent performances suggest they are beginning to peak at the right time.

Home form has been a concern all season due to a lack of goals, but Auxerre now have the chance to secure consecutive home league wins for the first time since November. Sekou Mara, who scored twice last time out, will again carry much of the attacking responsibility.

However, the hosts also have several injury worries. Danny Namaso and Romain Faivre are doubts after both picked up issues against Angers, while Donovan Leon, Oussama El Azzouzi and Nathan Buayi-Kiala remain sidelined. Fredrik Oppegard is also being monitored after suffering a rib problem.

Nice, meanwhile, are enduring a deeply disappointing end to the season.

Franck Haise’s side have gone six league games without a victory, and what once looked like a comfortable mid-table campaign has now turned into a genuine survival battle. Their 1-1 draw against Lens last weekend did little to ease the pressure, particularly with the Coupe de France final still looming in the background.

Despite their poor overall form, Nice have performed relatively well against teams below them in the table this season and will also draw confidence from their 3-1 win in the reverse fixture earlier in the campaign.

The visitors are also dealing with injury concerns. Elye Wahi remains doubtful, while Moise Bombito, Mohamed Abdelmonem and Everton Pereira are all expected to miss out. Jonathan Clauss is also a major question mark heading into the weekend.

Whispers predicts: Auxerre 1-1 Nice

With both sides carrying fragile confidence and enormous pressure, this contest has the feel of a tense and cautious affair. Under 2.5 goals is priced at 17/20.

Auxerre’s momentum from last weekend could help them stay competitive, but Nice still possess enough individual quality to grind out a valuable point in the relegation battle. A draw at 12/5 looks like a possible outcome.
