Lyon to win and under 3.5 goals

Auxerre have the poorest attack in the league, while Lyon have a poor record on the road, but the visitors have enough quality to edge this clash.

Auxerre will attempt to halt their alarming slide down the Ligue 1 standings when they host Lyon at Stade de l'Abbe-Deschamps on Sunday afternoon.

The home side enter the weekend bottom of the table and in desperate need of momentum, while Lyon arrive looking to revive their European push after a frustrating run of results.

Les Diplomates have collected just one point from their last seven league outings, whereas Les Gones suffered late heartbreak against PSG before the international break.

Below, you will find our Auxerre vs Lyon predictions, along with more football betting tips for today.

Auxerre vs Lyon prediction: Les Gones to return to winning ways

Key statistics

  • Auxerre have gone seven Ligue 1 games without a win.
  • The hosts have scored a league-low seven goals in 12 matches.
  • Lyon are winless in four straight away fixtures across all competitions.
  • Auxerre’s last home victory came on September 21.

Correct score prediction: Auxerre 0-1 Lyon

Auxerre’s home form offers some encouragement, but their lack of cutting edge in attack remains a major concern. Lyon’s overall quality and greater threat in the final third should make the difference.

Pre-game odds and implied win probabilities: Lyon are narrow favourites

  • Auxerre: 13/5 (3.60) – 27.8%
  • Draw: 12/5 (3.40) – 29.4%
  • Lyon: 21/20 (2.05) – 48.8%

These odds indicate Lyon are narrow favourites, with nearly a 50% chance of taking all three points. The draw remains a realistic outcome, while Auxerre are viewed as underdogs given their poor form and struggles in front of goal.

Most Recent H2H meetings: Lyon have had the upper hand

Lyon have traditionally held the upper hand in this fixture, and in recent times, they have won four of the last six competitive meetings, with Auxerre picking up just one win.

Auxerre preview: Goals desperately needed

Auxerre’s season has spiralled since early October, with Christophe Pelissier’s side slipping to the foot of the table after a damaging seven-match winless run. Their most recent defeat, a 2-0 loss at Angers, highlighted both defensive uncertainty and continued attacking frustrations, with only seven league goals scored so far.

Despite their struggles, Auxerre will take comfort from playing at home, the venue of their last victory in September.

Auxerre’s problems stem largely from their misfiring attack, and with key midfielder Oussama El Azzouzi still out injured and centre-back Telli Siwe unavailable, Pelissier faces more selection headaches.

Their defensive shape has also suffered in recent weeks, and the pressure continues to rise as results worsen.

Predicted lineup: Leon (GK); Senaya, Sierralta, Akpa, Oppegard; Owusu, Matondo, Danoi; Casmir, Namaso, Sinayoko

Auxerre’s last five fixtures

  • 09.11.25 – Angers 2-0 Auxerre
  • 01.11.25 – Auxerre 0-1 Marseille
  • 29.10.25 – Strasbourg 3-0 Auxerre
  • 26.10.25 – Auxerre 0-1 Le Havre
  • 19.10.25 – Rennes 2-2 Auxerre

Lyon preview: Injuries piling up

Lyon have also stuttered in recent weeks, as Paulo Fonseca’s side are without a win in four matches across all competitions and were denied a morale-boosting result against PSG by a stoppage-time winner.

Sitting seventh in the league, they remain firmly in the European mix but cannot afford more dropped points against bottom-placed opposition.

Les Gones have not won away from home since late September, a streak they will be hopeful of ending here.

However, they enter the match with several notable absentees. Pavel Sulc and Malick Fofana remain sidelined, while Tyler Morton and Nicolas Tagliafico are suspended.

Ernest Nuamah is edging closer to his return but is not yet available.

Predicted lineup: Greif (GK); Kluivert, Mata, Niakhate, Barisic; Tessman, Karabec; Maitland-Niles, Merah, Moreira; Ghezzal

Lyon’s last five fixtures

  • 09.11.25 – Lyon 2-3 PSG
  • 06.11.25 – Betis 2-0 Lyon
  • 02.11.25 – Brest 0-0 Lyon
  • 29.10.25 – Paris FC 3-3 Lyon
  • 26.10.25 – Lyon 2-1 Strasbourg

Player to Watch: Ainsley Maitland-Niles

With Sulc injured and several attackers unavailable, Maitland-Niles has become a pivotal creative force for Lyon. His ability to drive play forward, connect with the front line and arrive in scoring positions makes him a central figure in Fonseca’s tactical setup.
