Correct score prediction: Augsburg 2-1 St Pauli

Fresh from a monumental victory over Bayern Munich last weekend, Augsburg head into their next match with confidence levels at an all-time high.

Manuel Baum’s side are unbeaten at home in five games, and have not tasted defeat at the WWK Arena since October.

St Pauli, on the other hand, remain in the relegation zone ahead of this fixture, which partly down to their woeful away record.

Alexander Blessin’s men have only managed to pick up five points on the road this season – the third-worst away points tally in the Bundesliga.

Most recent H2Hs: Advantage Augsburg at home

These two teams last met in September as St Pauli powered to a 2-1 success over Augsburg in front of their home fans in Hamburg.

That was St Pauli’s second win over their rivals in four games, but none of those wins came away at the WWK Arena.

Augsburg have won their last four head-to-head games with St Pauli at home, and they will be looking to continue that fine run on Saturday.

Augsburg preview: Hosts looking to maintain momentum

After becoming the first Bundesliga team this season to topple Bayern Munich, Augsburg will be determined to continue that momentum and go on a run of positive results.

Baum’s men will be helped by new signing Arthur Chaves, who marked his debut with a goal against the Bavarians last weekend.

In terms of injuries, Kristijan Jakic is a doubt after struggling with a calf injury. Defender Jeffrey Gouweleeuw remains on the sidelines, as does Chrislain Matsima.

Predicted lineup: Dahmen (GK), Chaves, Schlotterbeck, Zesiger, Fellhauer, Rexhbecaj, Massengo, Giannoulis, Rieder, Claude-Maurice & Kade

FC Augsburg 2-2 SC Freiburg (Bundesliga)

St Pauli preview: Battle against relegation continues

St Pauli enter this latest matchday sitting second-bottom in the Bundesliga table, with four points separating them from safety.

Blessin’s men will be looking to close that gap as they set sights on a potential season double over Augsburg – something that will be a lot easier said than done.

When it comes to injuries, Andreas Hountondji (ankle), Connor Metcalfe (knee) and David Nemeth (groin) will all be on the sidelines this weekend.

Captain Jackson Irvine is a doubt following his recent return from injury, while Japanese defender Tomoya Ando is expected to retain his place in the team after an impressive performance against Leipzig.

Predicted lineup: Vasilj (GK), Ando, Wahl, Mets, Pyrka, Sands, Smith, Oppie, Fujita, Kaars & Pereira Lage

Last five matches

FC St. Pauli 1-1 RB Leipzig (Bundesliga)

FC St. Pauli 0-0 Hamburger SV (Bundesliga)

Borussia Dortmund 3-2 FC St. Pauli (Bundesliga)

VfL Wolfsburg 2-1 FC St. Pauli (Bundesliga)

FSV Mainz 05 0-0 FC St. Pauli (Bundesliga)

Player to watch: Arthur Chavez

What a way to make your debut! Arthur Chavez joined Augsburg on a loan deal, and scored a crucial goal on his debut during a historic 2-1 victory over the indomitable league leaders Bayern Munich.

Scoring in back-to-back games would be pretty special, but that is not what we are expecting from him. Instead, we are looking forward to seeing Chavez deliver another big defensive performance.
