  • Real Oviedo are currently on a five-match winless streak.
  • Athletic Bilbao have lost three games in a row.

Correct score prediction: Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Real Oviedo

Athletic Bilbao have had an abysmal run of form in recent weeks, but it is worth mentioning that they won two of their last three home games.

Real Oviedo, on the other hand, have been one of La Liga's worst teams. They have also suffered four defeats in their last six away games across all competitions.

Despite their recent shortcomings, we are leaning toward Athletic Bilbao for the win.

Also, considering that Real Oviedo's last three away games went north of the 2.5-goal marker, over 2.5 total goals has an appealing look at 6/5 (2.20). That one has a 45.5% chance of landing.

Most recent H2Hs: First competitive encounter in over a decade

Although these teams clashed in a friendly in September 2020, their last competitive encounter came in December 2011 in the Copa del Rey.

Interestingly, given Real Oviedo's absence from the Spanish top flight for over two decades, these teams will meet in La Liga for the first time since May 2001.

Athletic Bilbao preview: Hoping to avoid a fourth straight defeat

Athletic Club will enter this game with many injury and suspension worries for head coach Ernesto Valverde. The former Barcelona boss was without left-back Yuri Berchiche, midfielder Oihan Sancet, and winger Nico Williams as his side fell to a 2-0 defeat against Newcastle in midweek, and he's also expected to be without them this weekend.

Unai Eguiluz and Benat Prados have long-term cruciate ligament injuries and will also be unavailable alongside veteran forward Inaki Williams, who has groin problems, while Maroan Sannadi is nursing a knee injury as well.

Yeray Alvarez remains suspended due to doping, while Inigo Lekue serves his first of two match bans due to being sent off against Getafe last time out.

Predicted lineup: Simon (GK), Boiro, Laporte, Vivian, Areso, Juaregizer, Galarreta, Navarro, Berenguer, Vesga & Guruzeta.

Last five matches

  • Newcastle 2-0 Athletic Bilbao
  • Real Sociedad 3-2 Athletic Bilbao
  • Athletic Bilbao 0-1 Getafe
  • Athletic Bilbao 3-1 Qarabag
  • Athletic Bilbao 2-1 Mallorca

Real Oviedo preview: A few injury concerns

Alvaro Lemos is ruled out of this meeting with a cruciate ligament rupture, while former Fiorentina star Josip Brekalo is out with groin concerns.

Doubts remain around the availability of Santi Cazorla, who has not completely shaken off his knee problem, and Ovie Ejaria, whose hamstring injury has also not set him free.

Predicted lineup: Moldovan (GK), Vidal, Costas, Carmo, Lopez, Dendoncker, Colombatto, Reina, Chaira, Vinas & Rondon.

Last five matches

  • Real Oviedo 0-0 Osasuna
  • Ourense 4-2 Real Oviedo
  • Girona 3-3 Real Oviedo
  • Real Oviedo 0-2 Espanyol
  • Real Oviedo 0-2 Levante

Gorka Guruzeta scored his first La Liga goal of the season in Athletic Bilbao’s 3-2 defeat against Real Sociedad last weekend. The 29-year-old has been impressive of late, scoring three goals in his last three appearances across all competitions. He will fancy his chances against one of La Liga's worst defences.
