Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (2/5): Arsenal leading race for Thuram
Marcus Thuram is enjoying a prolific season under Simone Inzaghi at Inter Milan, leading to interest from a number of clubs, including Liverpool. However, Arsenal and Chelsea are understood to be ahead of the Reds in the heated race for the Frenchman.
The story comes from Football Insider, who aren't very reliable when it comes to transfer exclusives.
Value (2/5): Inter attempting to change release clause
The 27-year-old has a £71million release clause in his contract. However, it is claimed that the Nerazzurri are attempting to negotiate a new deal in their attempt to price him out of a move away from San Siro.
Suitability (4/5): Intelligent and explosive forward
The Frenchman is known for his strong hold-up play, pace, and exceptional awareness of where his teammates are. He is capable of brilliantly combining with his teammates and also making a difference on his own, in and around the penalty area.
Upgrade? (3.5/5): Challenge for Havertz
Kai Havertz is currently Arsenal's first-choice striker but the arrival of Thuram would hand Mikel Arteta a very different and powerful alternative for the German, who often shows a lack of killer instincts. Further, the France international is also capable of playing on the flanks, should Arteta decide to continue playing Havertz through the middle.
Logic (2/5): Too early for a move away
Thuram only joined Inter in 2023 and has a contract lasting until the summer of 2028. Further, he appears to be enjoying his football under Inzaghi and at this stage, he has shown no desire to leave Milan. Accordingly, it is going to be very tough for his suitors to convince him to exit Inter this summer.
Whisper+ verdict: 13.5/25
With both Inter and Thuram not considering a summer transfer, Arsenal may have to look elsewhere to solve their goalscoring woes.
