Arouca preview: Jose Fontan ruled out
Arouca left it late against Nacional last Saturday as they fought back from behind to snatch a 2-1 victory when both sides squared off at the Estadio da Madeira.
In a game where both sides finished with 10 men, Boris Popovic netted in the 74th minute to cancel out Jesus Ramirez’s 66th-minute opener before Espen Van Ee struck in the 89th minute to complete the Arouca comeback.
This was a much-needed result for Vasco Seabra’s men, who kicked off the season with a 3-1 victory over AVS in August’s league opener before failing to win their subsequent four games (2L, 2D).
Arouca have picked up eight points from the first 18 available in the Primeira Liga to sit 10th in the league standings, level on points with Santa Clara and Vitoria de Guimaraes.
The Arouquenses will head into Monday’s game without the services of Spanish defender Jose Fontan, who is suspended after receiving his marching orders against Nacional last time out.
Predicted lineup: Valido (GK), Esgaio, Rocha, Popovic, Dante, Fukui, Simao, Trezza, Lee, Djouahra& Nandin
Last five games
- Nacional 1-2 Arouca
- Arouca 0-2 Casa Pia
- Vitoria de Guimaraes 1-1 Arouca
- Arouca 3-3 Rio Ave
- Sporting Lisbon 6-0 Arouca
Porto preview: Dragoes firing on all cylinders
Porto picked up a dream start to the 2025-26 Europa League campaign in midweek as they secured a last-gasp 1-0 victory over RB Salzburg when the two teams met in Austria.
With the game headed for a deadlock, Brazilian teenager William Gomes grabbed the headlines for the visitors as he struck in the third minute of stoppage time to hand them an opening-day victory at the Red Bull Arena.
This was in keeping with their dominant run of results in the Primeira Liga, where Francesco Farioli’s men thrashed Rio Ave 3-0 last weekend and are the only side with a 100% record, having picked up six wins from their six games so far.
Porto’s blistering start to the campaign has been down to their dominant display at both ends of the pitch this season, as they have netted 16 goals in their seven games across all competitions while keeping six clean sheets.
Predicted lineup: Costa (GK), Rosario, Bednarek, Kiwior, Moura, Froholdt, Varela, Veiga, Pepe, Aghehowa & Sainz
Last five games
- Salzburg 0-1 Porto
- Rio Ave 0-3 Porto
- Porto 1-0 Nacional
- Sporting Lisbon 1-2 Porto
- Porto 4-0 Casa Pia
Player to watch — Samuel Aghehowa

Samuel Aghehowa had a relatively quiet outing against Salzburg in the Europa League, but the Spanish striker has been on song for Porto in the league and will be one to look out for.
Aghehowa found the back of the net in the 3-0 victory over Rio Ave last Friday, taking his goal tally to four goals in the first five matches of the new Primeira Liga campaign.
The 21-year-old enjoyed a stellar debut campaign for Porto last season as he racked up 19 goals in 30 league appearances (23 starts) while also providing three assists.
Aghehowa should spearhead the Dragoes' attack at the Estadio Municipal de Arouca, forming the front three with Brazilian forward Pepe and summer signing Borja Sainz, who has started all six league games so far.
