Whisper+ analysis
Authenticity (4/5): Reports in Germany give credibility
Last week, it was reported by German newspaper BILD that Man Utd wanted to bring their former cross-city rival Leroy Sane to Old Trafford, with Arsenal also said to be interested.
Now, the same sources are claiming that the Gunners have stepped up their interest and are ready to battle it out with United for the German's signature.
Value (5/5): Sane available on a free in the summer
Talk of a contract renewal at Bayern is still in the air, but it looks as if Bayern will be waving goodbye to Sane when his deal runs out at the end of the season.
He will be 29 by then, and still should have a few years left at the top of his game, making him a real bargain for someone. With three goals in 11 games so far this season, Sane doesn't look like slowing down anytime soon.
Suitability (4/5): He fits into Arteta's system
A right winger who spent a lot of his time at City operating just as well on the left, Sane has the potential to bring a lot to Arsenal's front line which is certainly in need of a boost. Having a player who knows what it takes to win that elusive Premier League title will be invaluable, too.
Upgrade? (2.5/5): He won't be first choice at the Emirates
Arsenal's only out-and-out right winger at present is Bukayo Saka, one of the first names on the team sheet when fit. The Gunners looked very fragile without him recently, so a solid back-up option is needed.
A back-up, though, is all he can expect to be at Arsenal, unlike at United, where he would surely be ahead of Antony and Amad Diallo in the pecking order.
Logic (4.5/5): Sane not wanted at Bayern
The arrival of manager Vincent Kompany and winger Michael Olise has put a serious dent in the number of minutes Sane has played this season.
A move away before his pace deserts him, to a league he knows well where he can challenge for the title will make a lot of sense, and could be more attractive than a re-building project at Old Trafford.
Whisper+ verdict: 20/25
The time is now – or at least, in summer 2025 – for Leroy Sane to move onto pastures new. We gave his potential move to United 19/25, so we make Arsenal the preferred destination for the German, where he can challenge for trophies, even if he won't have quite as much game time.
