Albania were left spitting feathers on Saturday when they fell to a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Finland in their top-of-the-table clash after giving up their lead at the Helsinki Olympic Stadium.
With Etrit Berisha receiving an early bath just 22 minutes into the contest, Finland made the most of their numerical advantage, with Los Angeles FC man Leo Walta scoring a brace to cancel out Rey Manaj’s fourth-minute opener and turn the game around.
The result at the weekend saw Albania’s perfect start to the 2026-27 Nations League come to an end, having kicked off the campaign with a 2-0 opening-day victory over Belarus on September 26, three days before cruising to a 3-0 win over San Marino thanks to goals from Anis Mehmeti, Myrto Uzuni and Rey Manaj.
Albania, who sit one point behind Finland in Group C1, will now look to return to pole position in the standings as they have their sights set on immediate promotion to the Nations League second tier, having suffered relegation from League B two years ago.
Having kicked off their Nations League run with consecutive defeats against Finland and Albania in September, San Marino were left empty-handed for a third consecutive game on Saturday when they were beaten 4-0 by Belarus at the Illovszky Rudolf Stadion in Budapest, Hungary.
After fluffing a number of goalscoring opportunities, San Marino were made to pay for their lack of sting in front of goal, with goals from Artem Shumanskiy, Max Ebong and a brace from Artem Kontsevoy all coming in the second half to sink the visitors.
Not only have San Marino now lost each of their three matches in the Nations League, but they currently hold the worst defensive record after the first three games, having shipped a staggering 14 goals already while they are one of just four sides yet to register a goal.
Since a 3-1 victory over Liechtenstein that sealed their promotion to the Nations League third tier back in November 2024, Roberto Cevoli’s men have now gone 18 straight matches without a win across all competitions, claiming two draws and losing 16.
While San Marino will be looking to finally stop the rot and get their campaign on track on Tuesday, they have lost each of their previous five games against Albania, conceding 16 goals and failing to find the back of the net since their first encounter in August 2006.

Whispers predicts: Albania 4-0 San Marino
Fresh off their first defeat of the campaign, Albania will be licking their lips as they take on European minnows San Marino, and we are backing them to come away with a comfortable victory.
San Marino have failed to score in their previous five games against Albania, making BTTS – No at 3/10 (1.30) a tempting punt, while over 2.5 goals at 1/5 (1.20) is our low-risk value punt.
The correct score market has a correct score of 4-0 at 5/1 (6.00), while we predict over 8 corner kicks at Arena Kombetare, which currently sits at 2/5 (1.40).
