Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (2/5): Lack of Leicester links

Leicester are keen to sign former Arsenal striker Chuba Akpom from Ajax, after Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf claimed he was available for a loan.

The popular site tribalfootball.com name the Foxes as an interested club, along with Sunderland and Marseille, but provide no information on their sources linking Leicester to Akpom, nor whether they are seeking a loan or permanent move.

Value (4/5): A decent loan option

Working on the basis that the Foxes are chasing a loan move, they may have to pay a decent chunk of the Londoner's wages to beat off the competition to sign him.

It would still represent decent value, as Ruud van Nistelrooy's side need options in the final third to win their survival battle this season.

Suitability (3/5): Not in the best form

Unsurprisingly, Ajax are not letting one of their better players leave Amsterdam.

Akpom has scored eight goals in 31 games this term, which sounds fine, though only three have come in the Eredivisie, while another three came way back in the summer's UEFA Europa League qualifying rounds.

It's not exactly the record you need ahead of a relegation battle, but his previous time spent in England will be a bonus.

Upgrade? (2.5/5): Hard to dislodge Vardy

Advancing years are doing little to stop Jamie Vardy this season, and he's still a priceless asset for the Foxes, though he's no longer capable of playing 90 minutes every week.

And while Akpom's present form is not good enough to displace the former England international from the usual Leicester XI, he looks a more capable impact player than Patson Daka and Odsonne Edouard, even though Jordan Ayew is contributing too.

Logic (2/5): More suited to Marseille?

A fight for UEFA Champions League qualification with Marseille is obviously more attractive to the 29-year-old compared to a relegation fight in the East Midlands.

Furthermore, Leicester have scored more goals than three of the other four sides in the bottom five, suggesting they have other areas of the pitch to improve on instead of signing another forward.

Whisper+ verdict: 13.5/25

Not the most logical option for Leicester's survival bid, and not a lot to go on.
