Atalanta have lost their last three away games.

Seeking to make it two wins from two in the Conference League, Italian side Atalanta journey to the Johan Cruijff Arena to face Ajax on Thursday evening. Ajax were denied a dream start to the 2026-27 Conference League campaign last Thursday when they fell to a 2-1 defeat against Croatian outfit Hajduk Split at the Stadion Poljud.

After falling behind to Bamba’s first-half strike, the Dutch giants restored parity eight minutes after the break through a well-worked team goal finished off by Davy Klaassen, but the hosts responded two minutes later through Marin Soticek to seal a huge opening-day victory.

Michel’s men had booked their spot in Europe’s third-tier club competition after a solid run in the qualifiers, where they defeated Vojvodina and FC Shelbourne in the opening two rounds before claiming a thrilling 9-5 aggregate victory over FC Sion in the playoff back in August.

Ajax bounced back from their Conference League defeat at the weekend, when they hammered Groningen 5-2 in the Eredivisie, with Julian Brandt and Congo DR teenage sensation Jorthy Mokio netting twice in a dominant attacking display at the Euroborg Stadium.

With that result, Ajax have now gone five consecutive games without defeat in the Eredivisie, claiming three wins and two draws, and are unbeaten in eight of their nine matches this season (5W 3D) to collect 18 points and sit fourth in the league standings, five points off league leaders Feyenoord.

After two consecutive games on the road, home comfort awaits Ajax, who will be backing themselves to get the result at the Johan Cruijff Arena, where they are unbeaten in nine of their last 10 matches across all competitions, picking up six wins and three draws since May 21.

Over in Italy, it has been a difficult start to the new Serie A campaign for Atalanta, as they suffered a 3-2 defeat against AC Milan when the two sides squared off at the San Siro Stadium on Sunday.

With that result, Maurizio Sarri’s men have now lost four of their most recent five league matches while picking up just nine points from the first 21 available this season to sit 11th in the league standings, level on points with 12th-placed Lecce.

Immediate focus now turns to the Conference League, where Atalanta will look to continue from where they left off in the opening game last Thursday, when they secured a 3-1 victory over Cypriot outfit Pafos FC at the New Balance Arena.

Having secured a 1-0 aggregate win over Hapoel Tel Aviv in the playoff to reach the league phase, Eljif Elmas, Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca all found the back of the net to put the hosts in a commanding first-half lead, before Biel netted an 88th-minute consolation for the visitors.

While Atalanta will look to shake off last weekend’s result and continue from where they left off in Europe, their form away from home offers little room for optimism, having lost each of their last three away games since beating Hapoel Tel Aviv 1-0 on August 27.

Whispers predicts: Ajax 2-1 Atalanta

While victory here could see Atalanta regain form in the league, they are up against an Ajax side fresh from a morale-boosting victory over Groningen at the weekend, and we anticipate a thrilling contest at the Johan Cruijff Arena, with BTTS – Yes at 53/100 (1.53).

The Italian outfit have struggled for results on the road, and with Ajax firing on all cylinders at the attacking end of the pitch this season, we fancy Michel’s men to outscore the visitors and secure all three points, which is currently priced at 11/10 (2.10) by the bookies.

Ajax to win + BTTS – Yes currently sits at 13/5 (3.60), which is the safe high-value bet for us, while the correct score market has a correct score of 2-1 at 8/1 (9.00).
