Aberdeen have picked up three points from their opening two league games, while Rangers are still waiting for their first league victory.
The hosts have enjoyed a strong start to the 2026-27 season under Stephen Robinson, who has been in charge at Pittodrie since March 2026.
Robinson's team began their season with the Scottish League Cup and comfortably finished top of Group A with 12 points.
The home team carried that form into their opening Premiership fixture, producing a dramatic comeback to beat Hearts 2-1 after scoring twice in the 90th minute.
Their unbeaten start came to an end on matchday two, however, as Aberdeen suffered a 2-0 defeat away to Dundee at Dens Park.
The Dons responded immediately when the two sides met again in the second round of the League Cup just days later, with a convincing 3-0 victory over Dundee and secured their place in the quarter-finals, where they will face Kilmarnock.
Aberdeen will now look to carry that momentum into the league when they take on a struggling Rangers side at Pittodrie, with the Dons aiming for their first win over the Gers since October 2024.
Rangers, on the other hand, arrive in Aberdeen after a difficult start under new manager Derek McInnes, who was appointed during the summer.
McInnes has so far struggled to replicate his success at Tynecastle Park, winning just two of his first eight matches across all competitions as Rangers boss.
The Gers lost thrice, drew twice and won twice across their opening seven fixtures, including their Europa League exit and a return of just one point from their first two league games.
They eventually responded with consecutive victories in the Scottish League Cup and the first leg of their Conference League playoff qualifying tie.
However, Rangers' trip to face Jablonec with a 1-0 aggregate advantage ended in a disappointing 1-0 defeat in the second leg, which sent the tie to penalties, where the Gers were beaten 4-3.
The pressure on McInnes has increased following their European elimination, leaving the Rangers manager in urgent need of a morale-boosting victory against Aberdeen on Sunday.

Whispers predicts: Aberdeen 2-2 Rangers
Rangers enter this fixture as logical favourites to claim victory, but Aberdeen’s form gives them a chance in this tie.
The visitors have struggled to get firing this season, and their performance has been a big issue, so we are predicting a 2-2 draw for this clash.
Aberdeen have proven difficult to overcome at Pittodrie Stadium in front of their home support, which will come as a boost for them, having lost only once at home in their last five recent meetings with Rangers.
Based on their recent head-to-head, the bookmakers have given Rangers 79/100 (1.79) odds to claim an away victory.
A draw is priced at 14/5 (3.80), while a home victory for Aberdeen is offered at 16/5 (4.20), establishing them as underdogs.
Given that both teams feature potent offensive options, over 2.5 goals is priced at 33/50 (1.66), while both teams to score (yes) is available at 4/7 (1.57) odds.
Also, the option for the home team double chance is given at 9/10 (1.90), while Kevin Nisbet, an anytime goalscorer, stands at 11/5 (3.20) odds
> Home team double chance at 9/10 (1.90) | Likelihood: Probable
> Over 2.5 goals at 33/50 (1.66) | Likelihood: Possible
> Both teams to score at 4/7 (1.57) | Likelihood: Possible
> Kevin Nisbet an anytime goalscorer at 11/5 (3.20) | Likelihood: Probable
