Wigan
Wigan made an impressive start to the new season with a 4-game unbeaten run. However, they seem to have run out of steam right before the international break and lost back-to-back games.
The 1-2 away defeat vs Blackpool in the last game was very unfortunate with the decisive goal conceded deep in stoppage time.
These consecutive defeats coincided with the injury to the hugely important playmaker Aasgaard. He remains in rehabilitation and will be missing again now. This is a huge blow but at least the starting centre-back Hughes is back from a ban.
Predicted Lineup:
Tickle (GK), Clare, Hughes, Watts, Pearce, Smith, Adeeko, Humphrys, Lang, McManaman & Wyke
Cambridge
After narrowly avoiding the drop last season Cambridge are enjoying a much stronger start to the new campaign. Already secured 3 league wins and the displays have been solid even if not great.
Last weekend used mainly reserves in an EFL Trophy clash vs Peterborough and this explains why a 0-2 defeat was suffered. The good news from this match was that star winger Adam May made his first appearance in 11 months after overcoming an ACL. May is not likely to start again now but he will be an option off the bench.
Continue to be missing one key player from each area of the pitch. All of Haunstrup (main left-back), Cousins (starting inner midfielder) and Janneh (regular winger) are still in rehabilitation. The main goalie Stevens also missed the last 2 games but he is back training and might be an option.
Predicted Lineup:
Mannion (GK), L. Bennett, Morrison, R. Bennett, Andrew, Thomas, Digby, Brophy, Lankester, Kaikai & Ahadme
Starting Lineups
The teams usually announce their starting lineups one hour before the start of the game.
Player to Watch: Callum McManaman
Veteran winger Callum McManaman has stayed with Wigan through thick and thin. He’s been part of the club since the days when Wigan were winning FA Cup trophies and playing in Europe.
Even at his advanced age now McManaman remains the main creator of chances and we back him to produce yet another memorable and decisive display for Wigan, as he has done on hundreds of occasions in the past.
