Wigan vs Blackpool: Our top betting tips

Wigan and Blackpool both come into this match in poor form with relegation a genuine concern. Will either find a way to win as they do battle at the DW? Find out with our Wigan vs Blackpool match preview with free tips, predictions and odds mentioned along the way.

Wigan won't get a new manager bounce

We begin our predictions for this match by backing Blackpool to win. Not only have they been in rotten form of late with six defeats and a draw from their last seven games but they've now chosen to give their manager, Leam Richardson, the chop. Ordinarily, you'd expect a new manager bounce but the vast majority of the Latics squad won promotion to the Championship under Richardson and will be sorry to see him go. As such, we think this game presents the perfect opportunity for Blackpool, who have lost just one of their last four away games, to take maximum points.

Going over 2.5 goals

Our next prediction for this match sees us backing the game to go over 2.5 goals. Wigan have gone over the 2.5 mark in six of their last 10 matches with a game average of 2.7 goals per game. Blackpool meanwhile have also gone north of the all important 2.5 cut off in six of their past 10 matches but with a higher game average; they've seen 29 goals across their past 10 giving them a 2.9 average. On top of that recent form, three of the last five head to head meetings have gone over 2.5 goals with a combined 15 goals scored – that's the equivalent of 3.0 per match.

Here are the key stats & form guide for Wigan vs Blackpool

Will Wigan win after axing boss?

There is one huge talking point ahead of this match and that's Wigan's decision to sack manager Leam Richardson. Richardson led the Latics to promotion last year and penned a new three year deal just three weeks ago. Now he is on the managerial scrapheap. The idea behind sacking him is obviously to kick Wigan into gear and escape relegation with them currently sat second from bottom. That could backfire spectacularly if they lose here with Blackpool just two points ahead of them.

News of Leam Richardson being relieved of his duties has only recently broke so there is little time for the interim boss to tear things up. As such, a largely unchanged team should be expected to take to the grass.

Wigan Predicted lineup – Jones, Tilt, Whatmough, Edmons-Green, Darikwa, McClean, Cousins, Power, Wyke, Lang, Keane

Blackpool are in a right royal mess with injuries right now with no fewer than nine players out of contention for this game. Amongst those nine are Rhys Williams and Stuart Moore, who are both ill, and Jordan Thorniley, who is suffering with concussion.

Blackpool Predicted lineup – Maxwell, Ward, Ekpiteta, Husband, Thompson, Yates, Dougall, Patino, Carey, Madine, Corbeanu
