Whisper+ analysis

Authenticity (2.5/5): West Ham table Walker-Peters contract

West Ham have reportedly offered a contract to Southampton's Walker-Peters, who will become a free agent at the end of the season.

That is according to TBR Football, who also claim that Walker Peters's former club, Tottenham, have spoken to the player's representatives.

Value (4.5/5): Free transfer pending

Walker-Peters seemingly has no intention of extending his stay at St Mary's following Southampton's relegation to the Championship. As a result, he will be available on a free transfer when his contract expires at the end of June.

Suitability (3.5/5): Versatile player

There may be concern that Walker-Peters has been a regular fixture in a side that are languishing at the foot of the Premier League table.

However, he could still be a good option to add depth to Graham Potter's squad, especially as he has proven he can play anywhere across the backline. The 27-year-old can also operate as a wide midfielder, with his ability to play with both feet making him a versatile option.

Upgrade? (2/5): Potential squad player

West Ham would be signing Walker-Peters to predominantly play as a full-back. However, he may struggle to nail down a regular starting spot on either side of the backline. Aaron Wan-Bissaka is Potter's first-choice right-back, while on the opposite side, West Ham have Emerson, Oliver Scarles and Aaron Cresswell.

Logic (3/5): Chance to stay in Premier League

Walker-Peters may be open to a move to the London Stadium, partly due to the fact that it would allow him to continue his Premier League career.

With that said, he could have other options on the table, amid reported interest from Tottenham, Chelsea, Fulham and Crystal Palace.

Whisper+ verdict: 15.5/25

The low cost of this move could appeal to West Ham, but he would surely have to settle for a squad role rather than a regular starting spot. As a result, he could have some reservations about joining the Hammers this summer.
