The second round of Bundesliga fixtures gets underway this weekend, with Werder Bremen welcoming RB Leipzig to the Weserstadion on Saturday afternoon.
The hosts, led by Daniel Thioune, came perilously close to relegation last season and could not get their 2026-27 campaign off to a winning start, suffering a heavy 4-1 defeat to Freiburg on the opening weekend.
RB Leipzig, meanwhile, travel north looking to maintain their perfect start to competitive action after following up a 6-0 DFB-Pokal victory with a 3-0 Bundesliga win over Borussia Monchengladbach.

Werder Bremen narrowly avoided relegation last season after finishing just three points clear of the relegation playoff spot, bringing an extremely difficult campaign to a close with only 32 points from their 34 league matches.
Their lack of attacking output was a major factor behind their struggles, with Bremen finding the net just 37 times at an average of 1.1 goals per game. Only one Bundesliga side scored fewer, with the team that finished bottom of the table producing an even weaker return.
By the time the Bundesliga resumed following the winter break, Bremen were firmly embroiled in a relegation battle and turned to Daniel Thioune, who arrived with the primary objective of keeping the club in Germany's top flight.
Thioune ultimately achieved that goal, with Bremen picking up just enough points from the 14 matches following his arrival to avoid the relegation playoff and preserve their Bundesliga status for another season.
However, they could hardly have wished for a more difficult start to the new campaign, despite initially making a positive impression in the DFB-Pokal.
After cruising to a 3-0 victory in the cup, Thioune's side were thrashed 4-1 by Freiburg, who were themselves looking to move on from the disappointment of their Europa League final defeat.
That result leaves Bremen facing another stern examination this weekend, with RB Leipzig arriving at the Weserstadion in considerably better spirits.
The Red Bulls began their competitive campaign with a 6-0 demolition in the DFB-Pokal before making an equally impressive start to their Bundesliga season, defeating Borussia Monchengladbach 3-0 at home.
Leipzig are now under the guidance of former Manchester City and Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis, who arrived at the club following managerial spells with Monterrey and Mallorca.
The German side could hardly have made a better start under their new boss, scoring nine times without conceding across their opening two matches.
Those results have provided an immediate boost after Leipzig decided to part company with Ole Werner following just one season in charge, despite the former Werder boss guiding the club to a third-place finish last term.
Goals from Ridle Baku, Antonio Nusa and Rocco Reitz secured the opening-day victory over Gladbach, and Leipzig will now look to maintain that momentum when they make the trip to Bremen.

RB Leipzig are clear 8/11 favourites to win, and given their strong start to the season, we fancy Martin Demichelis's side to come away with all three points.
Both Teams to Score at 1/2 also looks like a strong option, with Leipzig's attacking quality likely to cause problems while Werder Bremen should have enough to find the net themselves.
