Craig Bellamy will be hoping that their two friendly matches this week will light a fire within his squad ahead of their four-year cycle.
Bellamy's side missed out on World Cup qualification due to a playoff semi-final defeat to Bosnia and Herzegovina in March, and many in the Welsh camp will feel as if they should now be preparing for a summer of football in the USA, Canada and Mexico.
In reality, they face a summer of looking in from the outside, and it's not a massive surprise. For all the positivity around Bellamy's reign, their recent form doesn't make for great reading. Their only victories since the beginning of 2025 have come against Kazakhstan, Liechtenstein, and North Macedonia.
They will need to produce better than that if they are to make waves at Euro 2028, which they could automatically qualify for on account of being co-hosts.
The match against Ghana offers Bellamy an opportunity to experiment, especially after star man Harry Wilson dropped out of the squad.
As for Ghana, this match is less about experimentation and more about preparation. The Black Stars are all set for their fifth World Cup appearance, but they are in desperate need of a confidence boost before their opening match against Panama in just over two weeks.
Carlos Queiroz is set to take charge of just his first game in charge of the Black Stars, and he will be hoping for something more promising than what he saw from a distance last week when his side lost to Mexico in his absence.
A 2-0 defeat flattered Ghana, who only managed to accumulate 0.22xG throughout the 90 minutes. Queiroz's style has always been more about defensive stability rather than attacking flair, but his defence looked shaky throughout.
Queiroz has returned to the training camp after missing the Mexico match due to personal reasons, and the former Portugal manager will have Antoine Semenyo available to him.
