Vikingur Reykjavik are competing in Champions League qualifiers for the third time in five years and will be determined to move beyond the first round, having exited at this stage to Malmo and Shamrock Rovers in 2022 and 2024, respectively.
Solvi Geir’s side suffered a heavy 4-0 defeat to Brondby in their last European outing during the 2025 Conference League qualifiers. However, they have since made significant domestic progress, winning the 2025 league title and opening up an 11-point lead in the 2026 campaign.
Whether that domestic form translates to the continental stage remains to be seen, but Vikingur enter Tuesday’s clash in excellent form, having lost just one of their last 16 matches since April 17.
During that span, the Nordic side have scored an impressive 51 goals, including three in a 3-2 victory over KA Akureyri on Thursday, sealed by a 94th-minute penalty from Gylfi Sigurdsson to complete a dramatic comeback.

Like Vikingur, Gyori ETO’s last European outing was in the 2025 Conference League qualifiers. Since then, they have enjoyed domestic success by winning the OTP Bank Liga and ending Ferencvaros’ seven-year dominance.
