Bayern Munich to score in both halves

Bayern have scored in both halves in two of their last three games.

Bayern Munich and VfB Stuttgart are set for the 2025-26 curtain raiser as they meet in the German Super Cup at the MHP Arena on Saturday, 16 August.

This is the first edition where the competition is named after the late Franz Beckenbauer, a fitting tribute to a legendary German footballer whose legacy remains unmatched.

VfB Stuttgart vs Bayern Munich prediction: Both teams to score

Key stats

  • Bayern have won four out of the last five meetings between the two sides.
  • The German champions have won four out of their last five visits away at Stuttgart.
  • Nick Woltemade scored 17 goals last season for Die Roten, including five in the DFB-Pokal.

Correct score prediction: Stuttgart 1-2 Bayern Munich

Bayern will make their 14th appearance in the Super Cup since its inception, which shows their domestic superiority. They secured their spot in this competition after winning another Bundesliga title, but their last Supercup win came in 2022 against RB Leipzig.

Stuttgart, on the other hand, lifted the DFB-Pokal after beating Arminia Bielefeld 4-2 in a thrilling manner. They will be looking to make a point that they are good enough to challenge the elites, and a victory should give them enormous confidence for the season ahead.

Pre-game odds and win probability: Bayern are favourites to win

  • HOME: 19/5 (4.8) – 20.8%
  • DRAW: 7/2 (4.5) – 22.2%

Stuttgart preview: Holding firm in Woltemade transfer saga

The pre-match hype for Saturday's clash has been dominated by the off-pitch transfer saga involving Woltemade.

Bayern have been heavily linked with a move for the 23-year-old versatile forward, who has apparently informed Stuttgart of his desire to play for the Bundesliga champions.

After an initial €45m bid was rebuffed, Bayern came up with an informed offer of €60m package, but Stuttgart are holding firm on their €75m valuation of the player.

Woltemade's agent has accused the club of pricing the player out of his dream move. Stuttgart, meanwhile, are interested in signing Paul Wanner, one of Bayern's exciting young talents, on loan.

For Stuttgart, a win (with Woltemade in the side) would be a statement that their triumph last season was no fluke, and they are capable of challenging the elites in the league as well.

Predicted lineup: Bredlow (GK), Assignon, Jaquez, Chabot, Mittelstadt,  Karazor, Stiller, Leweling, Undav, Fuhrich & Woltemade

Bayern Munich preview: Pinning hopes on Luis Diaz

The German champions needed to bolster their wing areas this summer following the departures of Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller.

They suffered a massive setback after Jamal Musiala picked up a serious injury in the Club World Cup, and the exciting forward is expected to be out for a few months at least.

After missing out on some of their first-choice targets, Bayern eventually managed to pull off the deal for Luis Diaz from Liverpool.

The Colombian international enjoyed a terrific 2024-25 campaign under Arne Slot, and Bayern are pinning hopes on him to deliver.

Serge Gnabry received a knock in the previous game against Grasshopper Zurich, and he could be rested. Lennart Karl is likely to get regular exposure, especially with Kingsley Coman looking likely to move to Saudi Pro League club, Al-Nassr.

Predicted lineup: Neuer (GK), Laimer, Upamecano, Tah, Stanisic, Kimmich, Goretzka, Karl, Olise, Diaz & Kane

Player to watch: Harry Kane

Like an old wine, Kane is getting better with age. He has always been a great goalscorer, and he maintained an impressive scoring form for Bayern. In his first season, he scored 44 goals in all competitions, and managed 41 goals last season, including 26 in the Bundesliga.
