Uzbekistan Olympic preview: Gave a good account against Spain

Uzbekistan would have been expecting a tough game against one of the Gold medal favourites Spain on matchday one but the game proved to be much closer than many had predicted.

Despite going behind in the 28th minute, Uzbekistan equalised before the break via an Eldor Shomurodov penalty.

However, Spain restored their one-goal lead in the 62nd minute and this time, Uzbekistan failed to produce a telling response.

Predicted lineup: Ne'matov (GK), Aliqulov, Yo'ldoshev, Hamraliev, Khusanov, Urunov, Jaloliddinov, Fayzullaev, Bo'riyev, Rahmonaliyev & Shomurodov

Egypt Olympic preview: Should have beaten the Dominican Republic

Egypt had been expected to win their opening match against the Dominican Republic but had to settle for a share of the spoils in the end.

Thankfully, Spain's win against Uzbekistan meant that Egypt's goalless draw with the Dominican Republic didn't feel like such a bad result but the Africans are likely to need a win this weekend or risk being eliminated as they face the Spanish in their final group game.

Predicted lineup: Alaa (GK), Eid, Abdelmaguid,  Fayed, Elneny, Zizo, Adel, Shehata, El Debes, Atef & Faisal

Player to watch – Eldor Shomurodov

Eldor Shomurodov's club career hasn't produced many goals since he left Genoa for Roma in 2021.

However, the Uzbekistan striker is a legend for his national team where he has scored 40 goals in 73 caps and scoring the goal against Spain on matchday one just shows why he has been selected for the Olympics.

The Girona forward created Spain's opening goal against Uzbekistan

If anyone is going to score against Egypt this weekend then our money would be on the 29-year-old despite the fact that he only scored four times in 37 appearances on loan at Cagliari and Spezia last season.
