With October’s international officially behind us, it is time to turn our attention back to league duties, including the Bundesliga which restarts on Friday night with Union Berlin hosting Borussia Monchengladbach at Stadion An der Alten Forsterei.
Both these clubs are yet to hit their stride this season, though Die Eisernen are still four points better off than Die Fohlen, who are the only team left in the competition yet to bag a win.

Union Berlin vs Borussia Monchengladbach prediction: Low scoring clash on the cards
Key stats
- Six of Steffen Baumgart’s last seven meetings with Gladbach saw both teams score.
- Union Berlin have failed to score a goal in 214 minutes of Bundesliga football.
- Six of Gladbach’s last eight Bundesliga matches produced an underwhelming under 2.5 goals.
- Gladbach have failed to score in six of their last eight Bundesliga matches.
Correct score prediction: Union Berlin 1-1 Borussia Monchengladbach
Both these teams could certainly do with a confidence-boosting win after a slow start to the season. Union have had a few ups along the way, but their performance against Leverkusen before the international break was particularly bleak. With that in mind, we are backing Monchengladbach to take advantage and seal another point.
Pre-game odds and win probability: Bookmakers back the hosts
- HOME: 5/4 (2.25) – 44.4%
- DRAW: 5/2 (3.50) – 28.6%
- AWAY: 2/1 (3.00) – 33.3%
*odds from Ladbrokes, subject to change
As shown by the implied probabilities, Union Berlin are the favourites with bookmakers to take home all three points. A draw can still be backed at just under 30%, while Gladbach are unsurprisingly rank outsiders at just over 30%.

Robert Skov has not featured in a competitive fixture for Union Berlin since mid-September. However, the forward did get 90 minutes of action in a friendly fixture during the international break. Fellow forward Livan Burcu was not afforded the same luxury, as his ankle problems continue.
There are further doubts over the availability of Croatian defender Josip Juranovic, who has not featured since a 2-1 win over Stuttgart in August.

Last five results:

Player to watch: Oliver Burke

We are still early into the season, yet we have already seen the very best and worst of Oliver Burke. The Scot had a particularly poor performance against Bayer Leverkusen before the international break, but just a couple of weeks before that he bagged a hat-trick against Eintracht Frankfurt.
