Draw

Despite Italy being the big favourites to win this game, we're backing Friday's Euro 2020 opener to end all square. The last two meetings between Turkey and Italy have both ended in draws and both teams head into Friday's in excellent form. Turkey have won four and drawn two of their last six outings while Italy have won each of their last six fixtures, so you can see why we've backed these two nations to cancel each other out. The opening game of any tournament often proves to be a tight and tense affair and we expect Friday's game to follow suit.

BTTS

Both teams have scored in each of the last four encounters between these two countries and we're backing both Turkey and Italy to find the back of the next on Friday. Three of Turkey's last six international matches have seen both teams get on the scoreboard, while Italy have found the back of the net in each of their last nine outings.

1-1 Draw

As we mentioned above, the last two head-to-heads between Turkey and Italy ended in draws and both of those encounters produced a scoreline of 1-1. Under 2.5 goals were produced in each of Turkey's last two matches as well as in four of Italy's last six fixtures, so you can see why we've backed a 1-1 draw.

Can Italy open Euro 2020 with a win or will Turkey cause an upset?

Turkey secured a 2-0 win in their final warm-up game ahead of the Euros against Moldova and have only lost one of their last 13 international matches. During that 13-game period, Turkey have drawn seven times which only adds weight to our prediction for a draw on Friday. Despite not being the most experienced keeper in the squad, we're expecting Cakir to start against Italy and ahead of him, a defence that is likely to include Celik, Demiral, Soyuncu and Ayhan. In midfield, Calhanoglu will be crucial to Turkey's success at Euro 2020 as he is their chief creator of goals and can chip in with the odd goal now and again as well. Under and Tufan are also likely to start in midfield with Yazici and Yokuslu, while up-front will be the captain Yilmaz who is now 35 and has netted 29-goals in 67 appearances for his country.

Italy ended their Euro's warm-up with a convincing 4-0 victory over Czech Republic, a result that will have boosted their odds ahead of this summer's big tournament. Donnarumma will be expected to start in goal in what is likely to be a 4-3-3 formation. In the back four, Florenzi and Spinazzola should start in the full-back positions with the experienced duo of Bonucci and Chellini at centre-back. In the centre of the park, the Italians are likely to go with Locatelli, Jorginho and Barella with Berardi and Insigne out wide and Immobile leading the line. This Italy team looks pretty solid but does it have what it takes to go all the way? We're not so sure.
