Tromso return to Eliteserien action in a strong position after just losing one game in their last seven league matches at home.
The home team have also won seven games, with four draws and only two defeats, lifting Jorgen Vik's side to second in the standings, leaving them just two points behind leaders Viking, although the table-toppers still have three games in hand.
The Boys are chasing a first-ever Norwegian league title after finishing third last season, and while their momentum slowed before the summer break, they remain firmly in the title race. Tromso signed off before the pause with a goalless draw against KFUM Oslo, meaning they have not lost a league game since April against Brann.
To maintain fitness during the break, Tromso arranged a friendly against Swedish side Orgryte and produced an emphatic 4-1 victory, a result that should boost confidence ahead of the league's return.
Historically, however, the hosts have not lost at home to Valerenga in the league since 2017, but have only managed three wins in their last six meetings.
The visitors have enjoyed the upper hand in recent encounters, including a 1-0 victory when the sides last met in October 2025. In fact, Valerenga have lost only one of their last six matches against Tromso, giving Johannes Moesgaard's men reason to believe they can extend that positive record.
Valerenga's league campaign has been far less consistent, with four wins, two draws and five defeats from 11 matches leaving them in mid-table.
Nevertheless, they entered the summer break on a positive note after defeating Kristiansund 3-1, taking six points from their final three league outings.
The Royal Blues have also tried to use the break to stay sharp with a series of friendlies, but have not been convincing, with just one win in three games.
They drew 1-1 with Goteborg and narrowly lost 2-1 to GAIS before rounding off their preparations with an impressive 3-1 victory over fellow Norwegian side Fredrikstad.
The win would come as a boost for the visitors, providing valuable momentum ahead of Saturday's trip to Tromso.
