Tre Fiori claimed their first league title since 2019-20 – their ninth overall – but their success was hard fought given they only beat Virtus to first place by one point.

The hosts have never reached the group or league phase of the Champions League before, and they will hope to put on a strong showing against Northern Irish opposition Larne.

While Tre Fiori have never encountered the visitors before, they have met Northern Irish opposition in a preliminary round of Champions League qualifying in 2020-21, though they did suffer a 2-0 defeat to Linfield in that clash.

Manager Danilo Girolomoni's side have played just one game this season so far, losing 3-1 in the Coppa Titano final to La Fiorita on May 23, and they are now winless in their last two competitive games.

Larne's league title was only their third ever, with the club finishing three points ahead of Coleraine in 2025-26, though it was their third title in four seasons.

The away side also began their 2026-27 campaign in the best possible fashion, winning on penalties against Coleraine in the Charity Shield on July 3 after a goalless stalemate in regulation time.

Tuesday will be the club's fifth ever match in the Champions League qualifiers, and a loss would be their fourth in that time, with Larne conceding 10 goals in those four games.

It would be wrong to suggest that Gary Haveron's side boast a strong European record considering they have lost half of their 22 overall continental outings, but they have won seven times in Europe, and they managed to reach the league phase of the Conference League in 2024-25.

Whispers predicts: Tre Fiori 1-2 Larne

Larne do not have a particularly extensive record in Europe, but they are the more experienced side on the continental stage, and they should have enough to come away with a win.
