Tottenham were hoping for a new manager bounce against Sunderland last time out, but De Zerbi could not guide them to a positive result.
Their defeat proved costly as they slipped into the relegation zone, with West Ham United and Leeds United winning and Nottingham Forest drawing.
It is looking bleak for Spurs, who have never been relegated from the Premier League, but it is a real possibility.
De Zerbi will be determined to bounce back against his former club Brighton, but the Seagulls are poised to make it difficult for him.
They have won three in a row to move into ninth in the table, and are looking up at the European places.
Another victory here would edge them closer, and they will be keen to play on what is sure to be a nervous home crowd.
Brighton also have an impressive recent H2H record against Spurs, winning three and only losing one of their last five meetings.
Nonetheless, the Seagulls could inflict more damage on Tottenham here, even on their travels.

Whispers predicts: Tottenham 1-3 Brighton & Hove Albion
The Seagulls are favourites for this one, and given the contrasting form of both teams, we are backing Brighton to win at 7/5.
Our next two bets are influenced by the most recent H2Hs, whether there have been plenty of goals shared out.
Both teams have scored in the previous six meetings, so BTTS - Yes at 4/7 seems a safe pick.
Four of those have also seen four or more goals scored, including the last three, so Over 3.5 goals at 39/20 is also worth a punt in our eyes.
Overall, we are predicting a 3-1 Brighton win, which is available at 20/1.
> BTTS - Yes at 4/7 | Likelihood: Probable
> Brighton to win at 7/5 | Likelihood: Possible
> Over 3.5 goals at 39/20 | Likelihood: Possible
