Tottenham are stepping up their transfer activity as the summer window enters its final stretch. With the signing of Xavi Simons nearly finalised, Spurs have now entered the race for an out-of-favour Manchester City defender.
The North London club are proving relentless this summer. After snatching Xavi Simons from under Chelsea’s nose for €60m (around £51m), Spurs continue to flex their muscles in the market. Currently joint top of the Premier League alongside Chelsea, Arsenal and Liverpool, Tottenham made a major statement with their win over Manchester City on matchday two—and now they have their sights set on one of City’s players.
According to Matteo Moretto, Tottenham are set to make a move for Manuel Akanji before the window closes. While AC Milan currently lead the race, Spurs are hoping to repeat the trick they pulled with Simons. Manchester City are reportedly willing to let the Swiss international leave for a fee in the region of €15m to €20m (approximately £13m–£17m).

Spurs Keen to Hijack Milan's Move for Akanji
After lifting the Europa League title, Tottenham are clearly signalling their intent and have emerged as one of the most exciting sides in the early stages of the new season. Under Thomas Frank’s guidance, the club are dreaming of a Premier League title push and a return to elite Champions League status, reminiscent of their 2019 run to the final.
Manuel Akanji brings with him a wealth of experience, having spent four-and-a-half years at Borussia Dortmund and three at Manchester City. That experience could prove vital in bolstering Spurs’ backline alongside Kevin Danso and Cristian Romero.
Akanji, who has been capped 71 times by Switzerland, also offers versatility. While primarily a centre-back, he has featured at right-back for City—another trait that is believed to have caught Tottenham’s attention.
