Atalanta – Sturm Graz preview: latest form, news, and potential lineups

Read all of the latest injury updates and team news for this duel, including our predicted Atalanta vs Sturm Graz lineups.

Atalanta

Atalanta are in a strong position in the group but they were a bit fortunate to draw 2-2 on their visit to Sturm in the last round. Struggled defensively and also had some serious issues dealing with set pieces in that match.

More problems when asked to defend corners were witnessed at the weekend when Atalanta lost 1-2 at home vs Inter. Scalvini was very poor in this match and his mistakes were punished for both goals.

Don’t have any major selection problems with only rarely used anyway Palomino and Toure are set to be missing due to injuries.

Predicted Lineup:

Musso (GK), Scalvini, Djimsiti, Kolasinac, Zappacosta, De Roon, Silva, Ruggeri, Lookman, Scamacca & Koopmeiners

Sturm Graz

Sturm continued to display defensive weaknesses at the weekend. Lost 1-3 vs LASK Linz. The game was open with lots of chances for both teams but Sturm struggled to convert theirs and that was the difference.

It was a similar display when Sturm hosted Atalanta with the game finishing 2-2 but the Austrians probably deserved the win based on the amount of chances they created and missed.

The squad could be badly weakened in midfield for this trip to Italy. Starting playmaker Hierlander is serving a ban. Also, the team’s most creative player and key attacking midfielder Kiteishvili threatens to be absent as he missed several games with a calf injury.

Striker Jatta also joins the treatment room after limping off the pitch at the weekend. In better news, Boving is fully fit and he could start again.

Predicted Lineup:

Scherpen (GK), Gazibegovic, Affengruber, Wuthrich, Schnegg, Stankovic, Prass, Boving, Horvat, Sarkaria & Wlodarczyk
