The third qualifying round of the 2026-27 Champions League sees Czech side Sparta Prague take on Ligue 1 giants Lyon at epet ARENA.
While Sparta Prague have already kicked off their domestic campaign, Tuesday's first leg marks Lyon's first fixture of the new season, and the visitors will need to get up to speed quickly.

While Sparta Prague are the Czech Republic's most frequent representatives in the Champions League, they have been on the sidelines more often than not in recent years, featuring only once in the last 19 seasons.
With Slavia Prague already qualified thanks to their 2025-26 league triumph, Brian Priske's side now aim to join their city rivals in next season's edition of Europe's premier club competition.
The Maroons will need to defy history to overcome Lyons, something they have failed to do in six previous meetings, suffering five defeats and avoiding defeat just once.
Widening the focus to French opposition in general, Sparta have managed just two wins from 16 meetings with Ligue 1 clubs, losing each of the last seven, most recently a 2-1 defeat to Brest in November 2024.
However, Sparta head into Tuesday's clash buoyed by a recent 3-1 win over Zlin in their second league outing, extending their unbeaten home run in competitive matches to six games.
Having reached the semi-finals twice, Lyon undoubtedly possess greater Champions League pedigree than Sparta, but the French side have been absent from the competition for longer as they look to end a six-year wait.
Winning eight of 12 European clashes, Paulo Fonseca's side have dominated Sparta and other Czech teams in previous meetings, although their away record is less impressive, with three wins from six matches (D1, L2).
Les Gones were also recently beaten 2-0 by Slavia Prague in a friendly on July 18, the first of two defeats in their final three pre-season matches ahead of Tuesday's trip to Prague.
Given their poor recent away form – one win from their last seven competitive games – Lyon will need to address their travel woes to avoid returning to the Groupama Stadium next week playing catch-up.
