While Shamrock Rovers are firing on all cylinders in the Irish Premier Division, their hopes of securing a spot in the Champions League suffered a major blow against Floriana at the at Ta Qali's Centenary Stadium last Tuesday.

In a game where Matthew Healy received his marching orders, the Irish outfit found themselves behind going into the break courtesy of Robert Maurice’s 45th-minute finish before Mustapha Jah made sure of the result in the 79th minute to help Floriana place one foot in the second round.

Having finished 31st in the UEFA Conference League standings last season, Shamrock Rovers secured qualification to the Champions League qualifiers after clinching a record 22nd Premier Division crown with 66 points from 36 games, three points above runners-up Derry City.

While their dreams of becoming the first Irish side to feature in the Champions League now hang by a thread, Bradley’s men are on course to defend their league title, as they sit seven points clear at the top of the Premier Division table and are unbeaten in six of their last seven games (5W 1D).

For their comeback attempts, Shamrock Rovers will fancy their chances at the Tallaght Stadium, where they are unbeaten in eight of their last nine matches -picking up seven wins and one draw – with a 2-1 loss against Sligo Rovers on May 22 being the exception.

However, Floriana have shown they are well capable of getting results away from home, as they journey to Ireland unbeaten in their last nine games on the road, including three wins from their final three away matches to last season.

Following last week’s first-leg victory, Daniel Portela’s men have won each of their last four games across all competitions, including a 2-1 victory over Marsaxlokk FC in the Maltese Premier League playoff final on May 16.

Floriana, who are the first club from Malta to advance from the Champions League qualifying rounds to the first round proper back in 1993, are aiming to reach the group stages this term, following last season’s league success.

The bookmakers have Shamrock to win at 7/25 (1.28), while our second pick of the game is over 2.5 goals, which is currently priced at 4/5 (1.80).
