Since qualifying for the World Cup in November, Scotland's form hasn't been that of a side ready to go deep in the USA, Canada and Mexico this summer.

They failed to score a goal in either of their two friendly matches against the Ivory Coast and Japan in March, and were booed off the pitch by the crowd at Hampden Park after losing to Samurai Blue.

Time is a great healer, though, and a more buoyant atmosphere is expected at the national stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Tartan Army are expected to give their team a good send-off, but winning the match does feel important from a confidence point of view.

The decision to play Curacao is likely to be because they are from the same part of the world as Haiti, Scotland's first World Cup opponents. Interestingly, Curacao defeated Haiti 5-1 during CONCACAF qualifying, so if Scotland can record a win on Saturday, it should give them huge confidence ahead of their opener.

Steve Clarke, who signed a four-year contract extension with Scotland earlier this week, is expected to try to use as many players as possible on Saturday. However, he should start with his strongest XI, which will include the likes of Scott McTominay, John McGinn and Andy Robertson.

As for Curacao, they are likely to be one of the few nations that are even more excited about the World Cup than Scotland. Never before have they played in a World Cup finals before, but that will all change on 14 June when they take to the field in Houston to face Germany.

Curacao are also the smallest nation to reach the World Cup finals, with a population of just 148,000. For context, this is the equivalent of two full Old Traffords.

Dick Advocaat led them through qualifying before ultimately having to resign due to his daughter's ill health. However, he has now returned to the hot seat after his successor, Fred Rutten, sensationally quit due to conflict with some of his players.

Advocaat's experience gives Curacao a fighting chance, and the 78-year-old will be keen to see his best XI in action at Hampden Park. On the injury front, Kenji Goree and Livano Comenencia are both doubts and are unlikely to be risked.
