Saudi Arabia vs USA predictions: A low-scoring affair
Key stats
- Fewer than three goals were scored in five of Saudi Arabia’s last six matches.

- Saudi Arabia opened the scoring in five of their last six games.
Correct score prediction: Saudi Arabia 1-1 USA
Although USA scored five goals in their opener against Trinidad and Tobago, scoring against this Saudi Arabia side is easier said than done.
Herve Renard’s troops have been solid defensively, keeping five clean sheets in their last six matches.
Interestingly, USA suffered four defeats in their last five games, and they were the clear favourites in a couple of those defeats.
On that note, we believe that Saudi Arabia will hold their own against the tournament's co-hosts.

This will be the eighth clash between these teams, and their first competitive meeting since August 1999.

Saudi Arabia preview: Eyeing a quarterfinal spot
Defender Hassan Kadesh, who captained the Saudi side in their opening win over Haiti, is doubtful for this game after sustaining a first-half injury. Should he be ruled unfit, Abdullah Madu would likely partner Abdulelah Al-Amri at the heart of the defence.
Boss Herve Renard could not see his side book a FIFA World Cup ticket in their third-round Group C qualifying campaign and will hope to snatch one of the two remaining direct spots when the fourth-round qualifiers begin. But before then, the two-time AFCON-winning coach will look to guide Saudi Arabia to the knockout stages of the Gold Cup in the country's first-ever appearance.
The 56-year-old French gaffer will most likely retain his last lineup except for Kadesh, who picked up an injury. Saleh Al-Shehri scored the only goal against Haiti and is expected to continue here as the lone striker in Renard’s 4-2-3-1 formation.
Predicted lineup: Al-Aqidi (GK), Boushal, Madu, Al-Amri, Abdulhamid, Ghamdi, Al-Hassan, Alsahafi, Aljohani, Al-Hammami & Al-Shehri.

USA preview: A clean bill of health
The USMNT put in a good shift with a five-star performance against Trinidad and Tobago in their first Group D game, completely crushing the Caribbean outfit 5-0 in an impressive attacking display.
Mauricio Pochettino is building a good team ahead of next year's World Cup on home soil, and the Stars and Stripes are expected to at least reach the final of the Gold Cup, which will be seen as a step in the right direction.
With a fully fit squad ahead of this game, Pochettino and his troops know a win against the Saudis will hand them a knockout-stage berth, making this second meeting in three years an interesting one to look forward to.
The Argentine has personnel at his disposal, but he may not need to make changes from his last starting XI after seeing the coordination and understanding between the midfield and attack in the win over T&T.
Predicted lineup: Freese (GK), Freeman, Richards, Ream, Arfsten, Berhalter, Torre, Luna, McGlynn, Tillman & Agyemang.
