Sassuolo vs Napoli predictions: Visitors to claim all the spoils

Key stats

  • Napoli won their last five encounters with Sassuolo.
  • Five of the last seven clashes between these teams went above the 2.5-goal threshold.
  • Both teams found the net in five of Napoli's last six games.

Correct score prediction: Sassuolo 1-3 Napoli

To be fair, Sassuolo are brimming with confidence after stringing together a five-match unbeaten run. However, the Serie B champions have a poor track record against Napoli, having lost each of the last five skirmishes between these outfits.

Keeping in mind that Napoli are currently on a three-game winning run, we are confident that the Partenopei will kick off their title defence with a victory on the road.

Sassuolo preview: A couple of absentees

Following their relegation from Serie A in the 2023-24 campaign, Sassuolo made an immediate return to the Italian top flight as they clinched the Serie B title last season.

The Black and Greens will aim to start the campaign on a bright note at home against the reigning champions. With captain Domenico Berardi as the star man in the squad, and other standout players such as Andrea Pinamonti and Armand Lauriente, as well as new signings Alieu Fadera and Ismael Kone, the hosts should pose some threat against Napoli.

On the injury front, Kristian Thorstvedt and Laurs Skjellerup are ruled out this weekend due to injury.

Predicted lineup: Turati (GK), Walukiewicz, Romagna, Muharemovic, Doig, Kone, Boloca, Ghion, Berardi, Lauriente & Fadera.

Napoli preview: Looking to extend their winning streak

With Antonio Conte at the helm, Napoli made the most of their lack of European football last season by clinching their second Scudetto in three years and their fourth in history.

Scott McTominay was the star of the show last campaign, and with the addition of Kevin De Bruyne on a free transfer from Manchester City, as well as Sam Beukema and Lorenzo Lucca, Napoli are highly placed to defend their title this season.

Italian striker Lorenzo Lucca is expected to make his competitive debut this weekend for Napoli, as Romelu Lukaku has been ruled out due to a thigh injury.

Predicted lineup: Meret (GK), Di Lorenzo, Rrahmani, Buongiorno, Mathias Olivera, De Bruyne, Lobotka, McTominay, Politano, Lucca & Neres.
