Rosenborg to win

Rosenborg have won every game they have played under Freyr Alexandersson

Rosenborg will welcome Manchester United to Trondheim on Friday, 24 July, as the Red Devils continue their pre-season preparations.

Michael Carrick's side lost their opening friendly of the summer to Wrexham by a goal to nil, which puts an element of pressure on this match, although the priority remains building up the fitness levels of the squad.

If this match was being played under normal circumstances, where Man Utd were in the middle of their domestic season and had their full squad available, then we'd back the Red Devils to come out on top.

However, the fact that this is only their second game of pre-season and that several key members of the squad are yet to return from their post-World Cup breaks, Carrick's men could struggle against a team that are already 13 matches into their domestic campaign.

In the defeat to Wrexham, Carrick fielded 22 different players, the majority of which will not feature when United start their Premier League season against Hull City next month.

No new players have joined up with the squad this week, meaning the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Youri Tielemans, Matheus Cunha and Marcus Rashford are all unavailable for selection, while Benjamin Sesko, Karl Darlow and Matthijs de Ligt remain injured.

Some World Cup stars are expected to return for United's next friendly against Atletico Madrid.

As for Rosenborg, this is a golden opportunity to get a win over Man Utd. As mentioned, they are already mid-way through their season and have been excellent since the league resumed after its World Cup break.

Back-to-back 3-0 victories have seen them move away from the relegation zone, and they will now be looking up towards the European place for the remainder of the season.

Manager Freyr Alexandersson, who only joined the club in June, has some big decisions to make on Friday. On one hand, he will want to avoid any unnecessary injuries, but on the other, he won't want to lose any momentum.

Dino Islamovic is their only doubt for Friday, and the 32-year-old is unlikely to be risked.

Whispers predicts: Rosenborg 2-1 Man Utd

The Rosenborg squad will be a lot more match-fit and sharp than their opponents, who have only played one match since May. The Red Devils are also only expected to field a recognised team for 45 minutes.

Although only one goal was scored in United's friendly against Wrexham, Rosenborg are regularly involved in high-scoring matches.

Amin Chiakha has scored six times in 14 appearances this season, and he is a solid bet for anytime goalscorer.
