After a long season, and with no World Cup to look forward to, there won't be many players involved here who will be bursting with excitement to take to the field on Saturday night.
These June friendlies are often viewed as a hindrance rather than a help for nations not competing in a summer tournament, and that perhaps explains why Wales' record is as bad as it is in June in recent years – just two wins in their last 12 fixtures in the sixth month of the year.
Before their match with Ghana, Craig Bellamy was clearly aware of this record and admitted that his side must improve. However, their performance against Ghana was lacklustre, and they needed a stoppage-time equaliser from Lewis Koumas to rescue a draw.
Considering Bellamy's side will be competing in Group A in the Nations League in the Autumn, it wasn't a performance that will fill the ex-Liverpool man or the fans with much hope. Avoiding relegation will be the aim in a group that features Portugal, Denmark and Norway.
For the match against Romania, Bellamy will want to take a look at more of his fringe players, particularly as the likes of Harry Wilson, Jordan James and Ben Cabango are all unavailable.
As for Romania, these are still difficult times for the playing squad following the death of the former manager, Mircea Lucescu, in April.
Lucescu resigned from the job after falling ill just five days prior to his death, and Gheorghe Hagi has stepped in to take the reins once again after a brief stint as the national team manager in 2001.
There is a feeling that this squad is capable of qualifying for the next major tournament, Euro 2028. They reached the World Cup playoffs earlier this year and made it out of the group stages at Euro 2024.
In his first game in charge last week, Hagi handed out debuts to Otto Hindrich, David Matei, Andrei Borza and Matei Ilie. Tony Strata will be hopeful that Saturday is his time for his first international cap.
