Roma preview: A fair few absentees

After close to a decade at Atalanta, Gian Piero Gasperini sought a fresh challenge elsewhere, with AS Roma turning out to be his summer destination.

Known for his flair and attacking approach to games, Gasperini turned around the fortunes of Atalanta during his tenure and will be eager to do the same for the Giallorossi, who are keen to mark a successful era under his tutelage.

For this clash, right-back Zeki Celik begins the season suspended, while club captain Lorenzo Pellegrini is also sidelined with a thigh injury sustained in May. Moreover, new signing Leon Bailey is unavailable because of an injury sustained in his first training session with Roma.

Predicted lineup: Svilar (GK) Hermoso, Mancini, Ndicka, Wesley, Kone, El Aynaoui, Angelino, Dybala, Soule & Dovbyk.

Bologna preview: Eyeing a strong start

Bologna punched above their weight last season by winning the Coppa Italia at the expense of AC Milan, which marked their first title in 51 years, with the now departed Dan Ndoye netting the winner in the final.

Although they finished ninth last term in Serie A, as Champions League football proved to be a heavy distraction toward their aspirations of a top-four finish, Bologna are moving in the right direction and will look to build on the success of last season.

New signing Federico Bernardeschi is a doubt for this game. Scottish international Lewis Ferguson has fitness issues, Swedish defender Emil Holm is out with injury, while Juan Miranda will miss through suspension. Despite these absentees, Rossoblu will be committed to keeping their unbeaten run against Roma intact this weekend.

Predicted lineup: Skorupski (GK), De Silvestri, Vitik, Lucumi, Lykogiannis, Pobega, Freuler, Orsolini, Odgaard, Cambiaghi & Castro.
