Roma's form has tailed off over the past couple of months, which has not only taken them away from the title picture but also left them as outsiders in the race for the Champions League.
The man in charge at the Stadio Olimpico is Gian Piero Gasperini, who spent nine years as the manager of Atalanta prior to moving to the capital in the summer, and according to reports in Italy, his stint in Rome could already be coming to an end.
There are reportedly tensions between Gasperini and the Roma board, including Claudio Ranieri, and if Roma do fail to finish inside the top four, then both parties could go in separate directions this summer.
In terms of positives, Gasperini should take plenty of confidence from his team's form on home soil this season. Only Inter Milan and Napoli have won more points at home than Roma, which bodes well ahead of Saturday.
Gasperini has his fair share of injuries to contend with this weekend, with Lorenzo Pellegrini, Manu Kone, Paulo Dybala, Artem Dovbyk, Evan Ferguson and Wesley all definitely ruled out.
As for Atalanta, their form has also taken a dip in recent months, which makes this a fascinating match between two sides who will feel they are currently underperforming.
The incentive for Atalanta this weekend goes beyond picking up points in the race for Europe, as the majority of this squad will want to get one over their former manager.
Their current boss, Raffaele Palladino, on the other hand, will be looking to merely arrest a slide that has seen his team drop points in four of their last six Serie A matches. The major positive for Palladino is that Atalanta have won each of their last four matches against Roma.
In terms of injuries, the 41-year-old will be without Isak Hien, Kamaldeen Sulemana and Francesco Rossi this weekend.
